Today I spent time reflecting on what Memorial Day truly means.

I watched the Memorial Day concert, listened to stories of sacrifice, and was reminded that freedom came at a cost most of us will never fully understand. Empty seats at family tables. Lives cut short. Families forever changed.

Later, I found myself back in the shop working on this year’s Fourth of July collection.

And honestly… creating it felt a little different.

Because behind every flag, every celebration, every fireworks show-there are generations of men and women who gave everything so we could live the lives we do.

Today we remember.
Always, we honor.

More tees went out the door today.

These were created in memory of Jodi Cathcart and originally made for those attending her benefit dinner. I made the shirts for the organizers at cost because some things matter more than profit.

What started as shirts for a benefit dinner has turned into something bigger — a way for people to honor her memory, show support, and help her family. $5 from every shirt sold will be donated to support Jodi’s children.

Thank you to everyone ordering, sharing, and showing up for this family. Community matters, and seeing people rally around one another has been pretty incredible.

I spent today with my mom and it really had me thinking about how much Howling Holmes exists because of the things she taught me growing up.

Not just the obvious creative stuff. But the real skills behind building something from nothing. Work ethic. Showing up even when you’re tired. Figuring things out as you go. Being resourceful. Caring about quality. Talking to people. Creating a space that feels warm and welcoming.

She taught me to never give up, even when things are hard or uncertain. A lot of the skills that go into running this little business were being taught long before I ever pressed my first shirt.

Today we spent the day laughing, talking, driving to Oak Harbor, eating amazing bagels, and restocking Whidbey Island Trading Co. She got to see all the Howling Holmes items in the shop. It felt really special getting to share this part of my life with the person who helped shape so much of it in the first place.

Very thankful for today and very thankful for her!

Restocked some favorites and added a few new Pacific Northwest vibes to the mix-think cozy hoodies, Bigfoot sightings, mountain views, moody forest energy, and all the PNW aesthetic goodness.

I love having Howling Holmes in such a beautiful shop alongside so many talented vendors. If you’re local to Whidbey or heading that way for a weekend drive, definitely stop in and check everything out.

Tomorrow feels a little full circle. Arlington was the very first market Howling Holmes ever did. Now
we’re heading back for our second season at the Arlington Farmers Market.

We’ll be set up from 10–2 at Legion Memorial Park with fresh designs, comfy tees and sweatshirts, and the usual level of sarcasm you’ve come to expect.
