Finishing up a dress coat and putting it on the mannequin for that shape test, truly never gets old — Thanks again to those who have been patiently waiting on Federal Enlisted Frocks.

There is such a concentration of different skills and details to perform, even on just the collar and cape of an overcoat. For me, no two overcoats end up looking exactly the same. But they always end up with that cool imperfect look seen on many originals.

Richmond Clothing Bureau trousers made with Tart’s “Logwood Cassimere.” A fantastic match to several extant examples — It’s always a pleasure using this fabric. Something different — A pair of mid 19th century overalls based on extant examples and original photographs. A beautiful pair of W.B. Button contract mounted trousers, along with a tan contract shirt. — These trousers feature broadcloth stripes which denote the rank of Sergeant. Branch stripes of all color and rank commonly extended up the pocket and ended at the waistband. However, there are extant examples ending at the bottom or even middle of the pocket. I felt it looked neat and made sense to shorten these stripes, which already featured piecing. I love the way these turned out.

A small group buy for federal trousers — For these being the most basic ‘budget’ repro trouser in my arsenal, I sure do enjoy “mass producing” them.

Simple details like getting a little bit of bleed on a sizing dot, an upside down inspectors stamp or that nice little mess of stitches finishing the cuff vent always give something otherwise ordinary the right look.
