Spring hits a little differently up here. While the valley is already in full bloom, we’re just now watching the mountain woods wake up.
Planting in the Blue Ridge isn't just about aesthetics; it’s about heritage and resilience. Our specific climate—shorter growing seasons, rocky terrain, and plenty of wind—calls for plants that have called these ridges home for centuries.

A Few Quick Tips for the Wintergreen Climate:

❄️Remember that Wintergreen can stay 10 degrees cooler than Nellysford. Wait until the ground is truly workable before putting the delicate stuff in.

🪏Since our soil tends to be thin and rocky, incorporating some leaf mold or local compost can help those native roots establish before the summer heat hits.

🦌Deer Resistance: Since the local residents (the four-legged kind) are particularly active in the spring, focusing on deer-resistant natives like Ferns or Bee Balm will save you a lot of heartache.
