Not my usual old stuff, but for today I'm living in a 1960s Barbie's World. While I might have personally preferred some vintage GI Joe's, I can't be upset with an amazing lot of of vintage Barbies from the 1960s. Barbie, Midge, Skipper and Ken. Clothes, accessories, and carrying case and all in great condition. Most of the clothes have their original tags inside. Best part is the small little catalog from 1962 which has been helpful in matching outfits with their accessories.

Old Stuff of the Week: this week’s best find takes me back to the 1960s when Batman and Robin were on the air every week. The BATMAN GAME was produced by Milton Bradley in 1966. Classic board game format, and this one has all its original pieces, except the die. The game features pieces for Pedestrians, Batmobile, the Crime Lab and villains including Penguin, Joker and Riddle. Seems the only characters they didn’t make pieces for were Batman and Robin. Not sure I’ve found an old game in better condition, but if I do I’ll be sure to share the news, same Bat time, same Bat channel.

OLD STUFF OF THE WEEK
Over the past few years I kept finding small cardboard boxes of CROSS tacks and nails at yard and estate sales. I didn’t need them, but there was something about the design of the boxes that attracted me. That obsession with little cardboard boxes has lead to larger boxes, shipping crates and store displays. I now have more than a lifetimes supply. These small tacks and nails were made by W.W. Cross & Company from 1932 until about 1993 in Jaffrey, New Hampshire. The last photo has nothing to do with Cross, but it is one of the better looking nail boxes I have come across lately.

OLD STUFF OF THE WEEK
If you need oil in today's world of disposable products you would go the hardware store and buy a can of XYZ Oil, use it and throw it away. Year ago, you would have used a thumb oiler, most likely sitting on the bench in the garage. These oilers came in large and small sizes, and all that was needed to use them was your thumb. They were used on everything from sewing machines to automobiles. Simple design that has proven the test of time.

Old Stuff: At a recent antique faire I picked up this Demonstration Set of three Irwin Auger Bits from the 1920s. This was from a promotion where Individuals could send a postcard to the Irwin Auger Bit Company in Wilmington, Ohio and request a free demonstration set. A three auger bit set was then mailed out and included a letter from the company and a reply card so you could send a review of the bits you received. The set I found has never been used, are in their original box, and include their hang-tags, a letter from the Irwin Auger Bit company, the reply card, and the booklet "How to select, use and care for Bits. The booklet was published in 1926. I find lots of great old American tools, mostly well used, sometimes in an original box, but never have I come across such a unique and complete set with all the paperwork.

Good day at the Sacramento Antique Faire. Found a nice lot of Major League Baseball coins produced by Topps in 1971. There were probably 100 in a box and I started looking to see if I could find any Giants. The result was Mays, McCovey, Marichal, Bonds, Dietz and Henderson. Just a few childhood idols. I looked for non-Giant stars and came up with Aaron, Powell, Killebrew, Hunter, Bando, Robinson, and Brock. Seems to be a pretty good all star team, even without a second baseman and shortstop.

Old Stuff that doesn't seem that old. I recently picked up these two items at an estate sale and when I realized one is 53 years old and the other is 48 years old, I started to feel old. The Easy Bake Oven is from 1972, wonderful 70's yellow, and in working condition. Farrah's Glamour Center is from 1977, has most of its accessories, and to be honest is somewhat creepy. My sister had an Easy Bake Oven and I found it somewhat ideal for cooking Pillsbury cinnamon rolls.
