Not only do I do girly things like make earrings and such but I was a chef in a past life (past meaning before I had the hurricanes.) we live in the country on 40 acres and we’ve had to cut down a dead tree. Just so happens this tree was no good and there’s a hole in the middle throughout the trunk. I examined them for so long disappointed we couldn’t make a table and we started to burn the stump down. As I watched in fascination of how it was working it came to me. Why can’t I actually use this stump to cook on? I ran inside looking for a big piece of whatever meat we had in the freezer and found a whole chicken. Thawed it out as fast as I could found a piece of expanded metal and a bucket to create a smoker. This was actually my first time smoking something as I was super intimidated by it. I smoked the chicken for 4 hours and OMG! I don’t think I’ve tasted a better smoke chicken ever (I’m gonna hurt my arm patting myself on the back 😂!)
So today with the last slice of the tree the family trusted me enough to smoke the turkey. I set my alarm for 5 and of course couldn’t bring myself to roll out bed til 6. I was panicking I would be done way too late but but it’s sitting at 223f strong.
I got this insanely amazing thermometer that takes the internal and ambient heat (mostly to prove I’m not THAT red neck 😂) and it’s doing so much better than I expected. It’s called the Meater thermometer and it’s so great!
I know it all sounds crazy but This stuff makes me so happy and feel like I have a small amount of intelligence. So today I’m thankful for my family, turkey, and tree stumps! 😂
Happy turkey day!
