After 72 years The Bootery has closed its doors. As our family begins this new chapter, we want to extend our immense gratitude to our customers. Garland Dallas started The Bootery with the idea of providing shoes in sizes and widths that weren’t readily available. The store would soon morph into so much more. Along with great product The Bootery set out to provide the best customer service possible and with that, our customers quickly became our friends. We’ve been able to serve the best of the best…the people of Roxboro. The moms, the grandmas, the teachers, the preachers. The nurses, law enforcement, and so many others. From newborns to seniors, you all kept coming back. The relationships built will truly last forever even now that the last shoe has been sold. So many have said to us, “Roxboro will never be the same”. And in some ways, that’s true. But what made The Bootery such a special place will remain, the wonderful people of Roxboro. We cannot thank you enough for your loyalty and we are so grateful we were able to share such wonderful times with you. From baby’s first shoes, to prom shoes, your first baseball cleats, your wedding shoes. We got to share in your happiness and that’s what made us so excited to serve you each day.
It would not be a proper farewell without acknowledging Tonya Clayton. Tonya you were an integral part of The Bootery’s success. You embodied everything The Bootery stood for. So many of our customers, when they think of The Bootery your face is what they see. You have a work ethic that is rarely seen anymore and your dedication to the store was impeccable. There’s no way we could’ve made it 72 years without you. From the bottom of our hearts we sincerely say thank you, and we love you.
As we close these doors, we do so hoping that we’re honoring Bill Dallas. Bill took over The Bootery officially in the late 1970s and began trying to carry on the legacy of his father, Garland. Little did he know, Bill alongside Marilyn, his wife of 45 years would build a legacy of their own. Bill and Marilyn brought Roxboro the finest footwear, incredible service, and extreme care for their customers. Bill never got to see this day, but he had begun to plan how The Bootery would go out. We believe that Bill would be proud as he thought back on his body of work. People asked him for years when he would retire and he always said, “I’m not ready to retire, I love to work and I love what I do”. Bill would also be very humble in this moment. Humble knowing that The Bootery lasted so long because of his friends that kept supporting him year after year.
So once again to our customers we say, Thank you! We love you! And we’re so glad we got to bring you “Names you know and shoes you love”
