My Mom and I have started taking on the project of transforming all of my grandpa’s clothing into memory quilts. For each one, we’re carefully selecting pieces that capture who he was—his favorite shirts, meaningful patterns, and all of the vibrant colors. The first quilt is a bed runner with a Masters theme for his bed at my great aunt’s home in Augusta, where his sister can see it every day!

Last weekend I shared one of the memory quilts a wife created to honor her husband. Here's the second! This quilt features more of his favorite shirts and cherished memories they built together. The quilting stitch included beer bottles and his name, Al. Both quilts were the same size — each incorporating 17 shirts to create beautiful throw blankets perfect for keeping his memory close. I just can’t contain my excitement!! As excited as I am to get this new sewing machine, it is a little bittersweet. The machine I am replacing I’ve had since I was 9 years old. It’s made over 80 t-shirt quilts, plus hundreds of various sewing projects and quilts I have made throughout the years.

I can’t wait to dive in to learn the new technology and embroidery capabilities. Here come more fun projects to release my creative outlet!

I told you guys I had been busy and just had to keep them a secret until after the holidays!

This horizontal lap quilt was created from a collection of softball coaching shirts that held too many memories to let go of, but weren't being worn anymore, just tucked away in a closet.
