The process of sourcing the right leather and dyes started in January 2014 and the year was about experimenting with designs and materials to come up with the perfect combinations that make each bag unique. All the bags that are made of firm leather have been hand-dyed to achieve the perfect colour and hand-waxed to obtain the perfect finish. Some of the bags contain a combination of firm and soft

leather. We use only the highest quality genuine leather to make our products and all materials have been sourced within South Africa. We use only brass hardware and the bags have raw edges and unlined interiors. We love the natural quality of leather that allows the flaws to be visible and makes the pieces uniquely beautiful and distinct. The adaptability of leather means that the bags become journals carrying the marks of experiences and adventures you take together in life. Because the lifespan of leather is up to 20 years they become faithful companions that grow in beauty as they age and carry memories with them. Many hours are spent crafting each bag with care! We hope that you enjoy life with your new companion as much as we have enjoyed the process of bringing them to life.

Why DIY when you can buy? That’s the question we get asked the most. When you choose to purchase a leather product from the Maker collection – you’re choosing to stop, to exhale, to learn something new, to overcome fear of the unknown and to work with your hands. Intrinsically linked to creativity is the ability to risk, to dream, to imagine that which is not yet and imagine that which could be. Something beautiful happens to our hearts when we create, a depth is added to our lives and we feel a sense of accomplishment and fulfilment. We are passionate about this process and wanted to share this space with others.

We dream about the moment you stitch up your own leather product and feel the power of creating something beautiful with your own hands. Or the moment you “mess up” your journal with a splash of paint instead of perfectly phrased words and embrace the fact that life is not as neat and ordered as you might have hoped. We have packaged everything you will need into a neat box and created simple step-by-step instructions for you to follow. Sunette 29 years old, was rescued by law enforcement Cape Town from a brothel. She was being abused and sold by pimps to make them money. Sunette was forced to take drugs and was never allowed to leave the house that was operating as a brothel. One afternoon Sunette secretly got hold of a pimp's phone to SMS her mom for help. The police located the mobile phone and Sunette was rescued. Through Hope Risen Foundation Sunette received hope, love and restoration. Today her perpetrators are behind bars and Sunette is reunited with her family. We continue to fight for more success stories just like Sunette's. We are so privileged to be working with these heroes from Hope Risen Foundation.
