In 1983, Ree Guyer was working as a production potter in St. Paul Minnesota. Her father Reyn Guyer, who had written many songs and worked with some of the good Twin Cities musicians in sound studios, was playing some of his music and songs of his fellow writers for Ree. Ree had listened to her father's songs all her life. One day she said to him, "Why don't you let me see if I can get someone to record these songs?"
Reyn said, "Why not?", and Ree headed to Nashville and started knocking on doors of record labels. Her enthusiasm and the competence of the songs hooked the attention of some Nashville veterans like Billy Sherrill and Aaron Brown who soon introduced her to some of the 'movers & shakers' in the MUSIC CITY scene.
1986, Ree moved to Nashville, and rented a little office space in the back of Karen Conrad's building. She had started to represent several Minnesota songwriters.
1989 Reyn bought a house on Nashville's MUSIC ROW, 1229 17th st. South, and totally restyled it into offices for Wrensong Music. In the same year, Jon Vesner, who was one of Ree's Minnesota songwriters moved to Nashville to be closer to the 'action'. He met and married a promising young singer named Kathy Mattea, who had lived in the upstairs space above the new Wrensong offices. Jon wrote a song based on an experience with his grandparents. The song was called Where've You B and KathY cut it and put it on her new album.
Kathy's career and WRENSONG'S fortunes soared when the song became The Country Association's SONG OF THE YEAR.
