Maybe you don't hate jeans.

Maybe you hate the jeans you've been trying on. 😂

As fall gets closer—even if the weather isn't cooperating—I'm starting to hear it again in the fitting room:

“I hate shopping for jeans.”

Here's what I've learned after fitting a lot of women: the size on the tag is only the beginning.

Rise matters.
Stretch matters.
Leg shape matters.
Length matters.
And sometimes trying another size of the same jean isn't the answer at all.

Sometimes we need to try a completely different jean.

I put together what I've learned in a new article, including why I don't automatically reach for high rise, why wide legs aren't something to fear after 40 or 50, and what I now affectionately call The Pasta Test. 😂

👖 Maybe You Don't Hate Jeans: How to Find the Right Jeans for Your Body

Read it here: https://herhappyplaceshop.com/blogs/news/how-to-find-the-right-jeans-for-your-body

And if you'd rather just bring me your denim problem, that works too.

That's what the fitting room is for.

What if you treated St. Peter like a weekend getaway?

We spend so much time planning trips somewhere else that sometimes we forget how much fun we can have right here.

And these warm Minnesota days? Use them. There will be plenty of Saturdays when walking downtown requires boots, gloves and a little determination. 😂

So grab a girlfriend and make a weekend of it.

☕ Start Saturday at River Rock Coffee for that hometown coffee-shop experience.

🛍️ Walk downtown and shop. Stop into Her Happy Place, play in the fitting rooms and let us help you find a few keystone pieces that make more of your existing wardrobe work. Sometimes an updated pair of denim, a great layer or new jewelry is all it takes.

🍗 Lunch at Minnesota Wing King. Grab a patio table and try some of the best smoked options around.

🌿 Spend the afternoon exploring. Walk the Arboretum at Gustavus, wander through more locally owned shops and give yourself permission to stay somewhere longer than you planned.

🍝 Dinner at Kavo Italian Eatery. Have a great meal and a nice glass of wine before calling it a day.

🛏️ Stay downtown at the Konsbruck Hotel and turn your Saturday into an actual little getaway.

🍳 Sunday morning: Head to The Nicollet Café for a good home-cooked breakfast before heading home.

Coffee. Shopping. Great food. Walking. Talking. Maybe a little something new for fall.

And if you're thinking, “But I LIVE here…”

Even better.

Skip the hotel and treat your hometown like somewhere worth visiting.

Call the friend you've been meaning to see. Meet for coffee. Walk downtown. Shop. Have lunch on the patio.

We only get so many beautiful Minnesota Saturdays. Don't save all the fun for somewhere else. ❤️

She was packing for vacation with ONE carry-on.

That meant every piece of clothing had to earn its spot.

We helped her choose a few versatile pieces she could mix and match, but then came the fun part: the jewelry.

Instead of packing more clothes to create different outfits, we chose a few pieces of stainless steel jewelry that could change the look without taking up precious suitcase space.

One of my favorite tricks? Two necklaces that work beautifully layered together—but each can also be worn separately.

Two necklaces. Three different looks.

Add a couple pairs of earrings and a few bracelets, and suddenly the same simple clothing can feel completely different from sightseeing to dinner.

And unlike another shirt, jewelry takes almost no room in a carry-on. 😉

It was another reminder that a versatile wardrobe isn't about owning more clothes. It's about choosing pieces that give you more ways to wear what you already own.

If you're wondering how to pack light for vacation, create more outfits with fewer clothes, or update your wardrobe on a budget, start with your closet.

Then come see us for the pieces that help it work harder. ❤️

⚠️ This one's a little longer—but stick with me. I need your help at the end.
If someone asked you, “What should I do in St. Peter, Minnesota?”—where would you send them?

I just wrote A Girls’ Weekend in St. Peter, Minnesota: Shop, Eat & Experience—my version of a great weekend in our community.

Coffee. Local shopping. Great food. A patio. A walk. Girlfriends. Maybe a little something new for your closet. ❤️

But MY perfect St. Peter weekend isn't YOUR perfect St. Peter weekend.

And that's exactly why I'm asking.

There are so many reasons people visit St. Peter, Minnesota, and I know I'm missing some of the best ones.

Maybe you're here for Gustavus.

Maybe you love St. Peter history.

Maybe your perfect southern Minnesota day trip includes hiking, biking or getting outside.

Maybe you know where to take the kids.

Maybe you're a foodie who could plan an entire weekend around St. Peter restaurants.

Maybe you know the perfect date day, girls’ weekend, family weekend or quiet Sunday morning.

I want to hear YOUR St. Peter.

👉 LOCALS: Tell me your perfect St. Peter day in the comments.

👉 BLOGGERS & CREATORS: Have you written about St. Peter or southern Minnesota? Drop your link. I'd love to read it—and possibly share it.

👉 BUSINESSES & ORGANIZATIONS: What's an experience visitors shouldn't miss? Tell us and tag the business, attraction or organization so everyone can find it.

👉 EVERYONE: Tag the friend who always knows where to go and what to do. I want her recommendations, too. 😉

I'd love to turn these recommendations into more guides that help visitors discover things to do in St. Peter, MN, where to eat in St. Peter, downtown St. Peter shopping, local attractions and ideas for a Minnesota day trip or weekend getaway.

There is far more happening here than any one of us knows about.

That's part of what we're working to share through Experience St. Peter—and I'd love for our local businesses, residents, Gustavus community, Chamber and tourism partners to help us tell that story.

Here's my first one:

“I read your email about keystone pieces…and I want to learn more.”

That’s how a fitting-room conversation started this week.

So instead of walking around looking for things she liked, we started with a different question:

What do you already own—and what would make more of it work?

That’s the idea behind a keystone piece.

It might be a great pair of denim that suddenly works with six tops already hanging in your closet. A lightweight vest that adds shape, color and interest. A cream button-up that can be worn alone, layered or paired with pieces you’ve had for years.

And sometimes, it isn’t clothing at all.

We played with jewelry, too, because a new necklace or pair of earrings can completely change the feel of an outfit for a much smaller investment.

I know a lot of women are asking where to find inexpensive fall clothes right now. But before you go looking for MORE inexpensive clothes, shop your own closet.

What do you already have that you love?
What isn’t working?
What one or two pieces would make those clothes easier to wear?

Sometimes the most affordable way to update your wardrobe isn’t buying more.

It’s buying smarter.

By the time we were done, we weren’t trying to build her a whole new fall wardrobe. We were figuring out how to make the wardrobe she already owns work harder—and finding the few pieces that could pull it all together.

THAT is the kind of fitting-room shopping I love.

If you’re looking at your closet thinking, “I have clothes, but I don’t know what to wear,” bring me the problem.

Shop your closet first. Then let us help you fill the gaps. ❤️

I sent you an email this morning about b**b sweat, thigh rub and Italy. 😂🇮🇹

Yep. All in the same email.

I'm starting to plan what I'm packing for two weeks in Italy this September, and I've given myself a challenge: build enough outfits for two weeks without packing my entire closet.

And while we'll have access to laundry...

I am NOT going to Italy to do laundry.

So I'm sharing what's earning space in my suitcase: dark denim that dresses up, avocado and olive fall pieces, lightweight layers, a shrug, two belts, jewelry that changes an outfit, comfortable walking shoes—and this brand-new chocolate floral dress that arrived just in time. 😍

Then there are the less glamorous travel essentials.

Body powder for b**b sweat, thigh rub and staying fresh in warm weather? Packing it.

Beet Tan to even out my fading summer tan and tan lines before I go? Also packing it.

If you're on my email list, check your inbox.

If you're not—or you want the whole packing plan in one place—I turned it into a blog, too.

Read: What I'm Packing for Two Weeks in Italy—and Why I'm Not Doing Laundry 🇮🇹

And that dress? It's so new it isn't even online yet. Come see us tomorrow or Tuesday if you want to snag your size before I take mine to Italy. 😉
