“There are moments in life that stay with you forever. I hesitated to share this because it isn’t about me but sometimes we need to step in for others.
At our son’s Turning Green ceremony, families gathered to celebrate months of hard work, sacrifice, grit, and perseverance. It was a day every soldier had earned.
But one young soldier standing beside Connor didn’t have family there that day. Actually, several didn’t have any that could be there.
That doesn’t mean he isn’t deeply loved. Life, distance, finances, schedules, and circumstances sometimes make being there in person impossible. Trust me, I understand how challenging it can be to get there ourselves.
What I didn’t expect was for Connor to turn to me and ask if I would place his fellow soldier’s patch on his uniform.
I was completely caught off guard.
In that moment, I wasn’t just pinning a patch on a soldier. I was standing in for a mom who, if she could have, would have been there in a heartbeat. I was standing in for a family cheering him on from miles away. And I was honored beyond words to be part of a moment he worked so hard to achieve.
As a mom, I will never forget it.
To that young man, congratulations. You earned every bit of that milestone. Your hard work, determination, and resilience brought you there.
And to the families who couldn’t be present for one reason or another, know this: your soldiers are seen, celebrated, and cared for. Sometimes, military families become family for each other.
It was one small moment, but one I’ll carry in my heart for a very long time. 🇺🇸❤️”
