Today marks the Tenth Anniversary of the opening of Emporium 32. Wow. It feels both like a lifetime and also no time at all has passed.

We had hoped to spend this year celebrating this milestone with decorations, parties, and special anniversary merchandise. But instead, we've been forced to spend our time finding and designing a new home for the store. (See our earlier post for details). So next year, we plan to celebrate our 11th anniversary Hobbit-style, with a grand party in our new location on Derby Street. We've been completely overwhelmed by all the love and support from the community since our moving announcement, and we're so excited to share our new space on Derby Street with you all next Spring.

We want to thank everyone who has helped us reach 10 years in Salem. From our dedicated locals and regulars, to the literally hundreds of thousands of visitors, to the nearly 20 phenomenal staff who have helped us grow throughout the years. Thank you. We couldn't have done this without all of you. It's nice to know that so many people still want our unique blend of beautiful spaces, quality goods, and customer service. Cheers to all of you, to the future of Emporium 32, and to the next 10 years.

We're very much missing the Scottish Tartan Army in Salem, so we're starting our own!
Since we first launched our exclusive Salem Tartan, we've been asked if we're going to offer kilts, and as of today, the answer is YES! These lovely, wool blend, utility-style kilts are now available for pre-order. They feature an adjustable snap closure and leather straps, two deep cargo pockets, generous 3" belt loops, and a utility clip and D-ring.
Our kilts are available in Men's and Women's sizing in and inclusive range of 28"-54", and are due to ship this coming Fall.

Pre-Order before Thursday, July 16th and enjoy a 10% off introductory discount! Due to Emporium 32's current location's size constraints, we will only be stocking a limited number and size range of these kilts in store, so the only way to guarantee your kilt purchase is through this pre-order.

We're moving!

As some of you may know, the beloved Custom House building which holds Emporium 32 was sold last year in an off-market sale. Despite the fact that our new landlords own multiple ticketed tourist attractions, a tour company, three gift shops, a "haunted marketplace", numerous residential and commercial rental properties, two restaurants, and a hotel, they have informed us that their investment can not be truly profitable unless they also take over our 800 square foot store as well, and as such, they will not be renewing our lease at 6 Central Street. "It's not personal, it's just business", they told us.

What does that mean for us? Well, to say we panicked is putting it lightly. June 2026 marks our 10th anniversary in Salem, and we had hoped to spend this time celebrating that milestone, not dealing with the five stages of grief. We've poured our hearts and souls into this shop, worked more hours than we can count, shed more tears and laughed harder than we have anywhere else, and have been a part of hundreds of thousands of vistors' lives. We took a derelict storefront that sat closed for years and turned it into a downtown destination with a community of incredibly loyal customers, both from Salem and all over the world. We like to think that by doing so, we have inspired many others who came after us, making Salem a little more beautiful each season. And we weren't ready to give that up, so we got to work.

We've spent the last several months searching the city for a new home for Emporium 32, and we're pleased to announce that we finally found one. As of Spring 2027, you can find us at 214 Derby Street, in the space previously occupied by the late, great Pyramid Books. It needs a lot of work and the Nick and Jillian touch, but we can't wait to transform it into the space of our dreams, and with 2000+ square feet to play with, we can't wait to expand our collection of offerings!

The Central Street location will remain open through December, so you still have lots of time to stop by and say hello in the next few months. Follow our socials for updates as we transform our new home on Derby Street!

Today, May 15th, marks the official beginning of Straw Hat Season! Traditionally, one would swap their wool hats for lighter straw to better handle the warmer weather. While it didn't exactly feel like straw hat weather today in Salem with temps in the 40s, the rest of the weekend looks to be much warmer! - Fall Seasonal Part Time

We meet thousands of people from all over the globe, and often receive new shipments of product daily. It can be demanding and chaotic at times, but we strive to cultivate a fun and inspiring work environment surrounded by amazing products and good people, with a strong focus on customer service. If you've always wanted to join our team, or just want a front row seat for what Salem is like (particularly during the upcoming Spooky Season), this could be your chance!

We offer a competitive hourly wage ($18-$21 per hour for sales associates, depending on experience), and some great perks and benefits: 25% employee discounts, seasonal bonus, paid vacation and sick time, paid holidays off, health insurance options, and more!

Yesterday was Independent Bookstore Day. Did you know that our co-owner Nick is a third generation bookseller? His grandfather owned a bookstore in California, Peninsula Books, from 1962-1980, and his mother worked there during high school. We're so proud to continue this family tradition, and to provide our community with a rotating selection of classic novels, books on art and culture, and tomes celebrating history and legend.

Salem Tartan update- Blankets have finally arrived at our studio! Thank you all so much for your patience with this project. Global unrest and the closing of the Strait of Hormuz caused much more of a delay in shipping than we could ever have planned for, but we're so excited to finally send these off to their new homes.
We will be packing and shipping these out early next week, so keep an eye on your inboxes for shipping confirmation and tracking info.
Like the scarves and capes, once all of our pre-orders ship out, we'll have blankets available for sale in both of our Salem shops.
I hope you all adore them as much as we do, they are so cozy and the quality is amazing. 🐑
