Nacho Mama's Stitches

Nacho Mama's Stitches My favorite thing to do is fool around with some fabric and thread.

Every now and then I offer a flash sale of monogramming, embroidery, custom patchwork pillows, or even quilts, but usually I just sew for fun.

Cute little backpacks for some new (and soon-to-be-new) babies! This is the Violet Backpack by Knot and Thread and hardware by Stitch Supply Co. I opted for wider, adult-size straps since parents will probably be carrying the backpacks for a couple years, and then when the little girls are read to schlep their own stuff, they can cut 10" off the straps and singe the webbing to keep it from fraying.

I still have a few more bags I want to make this summer, but I am pretty much out of summer😭

🐻Fast and fun project alert that is beginner-friendly!

I am still over here making all the bags. This is the mini size , view A of Fieldstone Tote by Noodlehead. View B has a zipper top. Next up, a scrappy larger size.

Fabric: Ruby Star (the bears), Tula Pink (pink neon stripe), and Kaufman Essex Linen (hanging pocket), and a couple mystery fabrics.

Pattern: Fieldstone Tote by Noodlehead

Stabilizers used:
*pellon flex foam for main panels
*SF101 for lining
*decovil light for gusset

*Modifications: I cut my straps longer than the pattern calls for. I cut them 20", and this is 2" webbing. In hindsight, I wouldn't use 2" webbing on this small of a bag in the future, but I am still happy with the bag overall.

Here is the first attempt at the luggage tag.

The cutting was super easy. Without even reading instructions, I was able to set up and cut my vinyl faster than the amount of time it took me to wind a bobbin and thread my machine.

My proficiency at sewing vinyl was another story. I feel like I need some kind of heatless, glue-basting technique to keep everything from sliding because wonder clips alone were not enough. I did use the Teflon stitch plate with foot and lightened the pressure on my presser foot. Any tips from the experts out there? I assume I will get better with practice.

Maybe I will try cork next!
