We’ve started this post a dozen times and deleted it every time.
It’s a few days late, but truthfully… we just didn’t really know what to say. 💔
Some people are entertainers you enjoy. Some are artists whose music becomes part of your life. And then there are those rare people who somehow feel like they’ve always just… been there.
Dolly was one of those people.
She was big hair, rhinestones and country music, sure — but she was also kindness. Humor. Generosity. Confidence. Faith. Strength. She showed generations of women that you could be soft and strong, glamorous and smart, funny and serious, unapologetically feminine and still be one hell of a businesswoman.
She never seemed interested in making herself smaller so other people would feel more comfortable.
And maybe that’s why one of her simplest pieces of advice has always hit so hard:
“Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”
What a way to live a life.
There’s something especially heartbreaking about losing the people who have been part of the background of our lives for so long. People whose voices remind you of childhood, family, road trips, old movies, holidays, your parents and grandparents… memories you didn’t even realize were attached to them until they were gone.
The world just feels a little less sparkly without Dolly in it. 💗
So instead of trying to find the perfect words, we decided to make a few things that reminded us of everything we loved about her — a little loud, a little country, a little pink, a whole lot of hair, and completely unapologetic. ✨
These designs are available for anyone who would like one on a shirt. But more than anything, we wanted to share them as our tiny tribute to a woman who reminded all of us to be kind, dream big, laugh at ourselves, give when we can…
…and figure out exactly who we are and do it on purpose.
