I was lucky enough to see Dolly Parton at the Hollywood Bowl twice - first in 2011 when I was pregnant with Wallis and then again in 2016. She was everything you hoped she would be both times: incredibly talented, genuinely funny, completely herself, and somehow able to bring every kind of person together. An effervescence of joy and goodness. What a loss, but heaven’s definitely going to sparkle a little brighter.

📍Castellana Grotte, Puglia 🇮🇹🪨
Our tour guide actually said: “Don’t worry if you feel lightheaded, your legs feel heavy, or you feel like you might die… that’s all normal. There’s just less oxygen down here.” 😳

And honestly… THANKS for telling us after we were already deep underground.

The Grotte di Castellana are one of the most spectacular cave systems in Italy, and since the locals stayed away thinking it was a gateway to the underworld, they weren’t officially explored until January 23, 1938, when speleologist Franco Anelli descended into La Grave, the enormous entrance cavern, and discovered passages leading deep into the underground system.

And after spending days in the Puglian heat, this was one place we didn’t need our Kerr-Chiefs for cooling off since it’s a constant 63•F.

So basically: mother nature’s AC, slightly oxygen-deprived, mildly terrifying…

10/10 would do it again. 🇮🇹

📍 Altamura & Matera

Before a late afternoon tour in Matera (necessary in the summer to avoid the absolute blazing sun), we stopped through Altamura, a town famous for its bread and home to one of the oldest bakeries still in operation. Naturally, we had to stop for a bite of focaccia.

One of my favorite moments was looking up at the cathedral and spotting kestrels nesting in the old stone walls. It was a small reminder that these centuries-old buildings are still part of everyday life.

From there, we headed to Matera, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world with cave homes, winding streets, and layers of history. Walking through its ancient stone neighborhoods, carved right into the rock, you can’t help but think about all the lives that unfolded here long before us.

Another great day exploring southern Italy. Each place with its own unique history.

Best Kerr-Chief Use: I cannot emphasize enough how crucial the bandanas were, running them through every fountain we came across to keep our necks cool!

📍Coccaro Beach Club

Lunch by the sea at Coccaro Beach Club, followed by hours spent between lounging and dice rolling, the water, and the sun.

Where we were: Coccaro Beach Club

The Kerr-Chief essentials:
— The Bandana, keeping sun off your neck and hair effortlessly in place in the sea breeze.
— The Pareo, an easy layer from beach to lunch and back again.
