Story Time:
No matter how gay it gets and how much of a child your command sometimes treats you like, remember there are still Americans out there that trust you to hold up the legacy of men like Captain Stanford Shaw III.

This weekend at the Jersey Shore, the boys randomly met the family of Captain Stanford Shaw III. Shaw was killed in 2015 after MOJO 69, the UH-60 in which he and 7 other members of MSOT 8231, crashed during training. One of his cousins saw one of our brand’s shirts and headbands that we were wearing and instantly started tearing up. He said he had been following the page for years and began ranting about how much he loved MARSOC and how proud he was of the community. He was so proud to pull up his camera roll and show us the pictures of his cousin from when they were kids, Shaw with his team in Afghanistan, and family pictures up until the time of the accident. He said he visits his grave weekly and just thought of the world of the men, the mission, and the community. Between the 4 of us, we rattled off the 8### numbers that we had been a part of and he was in awe. We let him know that Stanford’s legacy still hangs around 2nd MRB and that his picture hangs above the bar at Pour House - Wilmington.

In the late 1990s, SOCOM released a request to industry to produce a machine gun that fulfilled the following requirements:
•Fires 7.62×51 NATO
•Weigh close to an M249 rather than an M240
•Retain quick-change barrels
•Use existing M13 disintegrating belts
•Be highly portable for one operator (lighter than the M240)
•Be capable of accurate suppressive fire to roughly 800–1,000 meters
•Require minimal additional training for soldiers already familiar with the Minimi family
These requirements resulted in the Mk48 from FN. It was essentially a M249 style belt fed that fired 7.62. By the early 2000s, it was in the hands of various SOF units across the DOD and saw widespread use in the GWOT. By 2010, FN began delivering an upgraded version to SOCOM, the Mk48 Mod 1 to mitigate shortcomings that were identified during nearly a decade of combat. The Mod 1 remains in armories across SOCOM and is still in use to this day.
