How are Vietnam War veterans, of both sides, treated in Vietnam today?

There I was, 10 days out of the jungle, on a commercial flight from Seattle to LA.

I fell asleep and woke up screaming, a nightmare. The other passengers moved away from me.

A reaction I noticed more and more in the years ahead.

The country didn’t give a crap about guys returning from Vietnam or what we had gone thru.

The feeling was “stay away, don’t contaminate me with whatever you brought back from Vietnam.”

Made me feel alone and isolated.

Today, I am greeted with “Thank you for your service”.

My grandchildren are proud. “Grandpa, what was it like”.

I smile, “It was a long time ago. I really don’t remember.”

I returned to Vietnam in 2005 with a group from Vietnam Veterans of America.

Don’t know why, but, people were forgiving.
