Mookie Siegel joined the Heart of Gold Band for their last outing, with Donna Jean Godchaux MacKay on the mic and Bob Weir sitting in, at the Sweetwater Music Hall back in 2016, after being a member of the Donna Jean Godchaux Band for some time.

Here he solos on the Elvis Presley tune that Donna Jean sang backup for, which became a number one hit in 1968.

Steve Kimock lays down one of his measured solos during the Paul McCartney classic. Let Me Roll It, often performed by Donna Jean Godchaux and Maria Muldaur during their time in the Jerry Garcia Band.

KImock teamed up with Greg Anton, Zion Godchaux and Marie Muldaur and Donna’s husband David MacKay to reunite the Heart of Gold Band for Donna Jean’s birthday this year, at the famed Mystic Theatre for two nights only.

Zion Godchaux has reunited with bandmates Steve Kimock and Greg Anton to reform the Heart of Gold Band for two special nights in Petaluma, California at the Mystic Theatre

Here Zion is joined by singing legend Maria Muldaur, a former member of the Jerry Garcia Band who sang with Donna, and Kat Walkerson to round out the chorus on this Garcia classic.

This year, to celebrate the birthday of singer Donna Jean Godchaux MacKay, her husband , Steve Kimock, Greg Anton and her two sons, Zion Godchaux and Kinsman MacKay, reformed the Heart of Gold Band.

David MacKay played bass, and paused the music to inject a little of Donna’s spirit into the night.

Skeleton Crewe is steeped in the Grateful Dead, and on this evening they leaned heavily into some big Bobby songs, including this spectacular and delicate arrangement.

“Prelude” and “Part 1” of the Weather Report Suite were rarely performed by the Dead, something that was rectified in Bob’s later bands, including Furthur and the Wolf Bros.

plays the slack guitar beautifully, and the rest of the band (which includes and Barry Sless Music on pedal steel, both sporting Wolf Bros hoodies) also rises to the occasion on this cool summer evening at The Junction Beer Garden & Bottle Shop in Bobby’s home town.

Skeleton Crewe is a very tight band of Dead Family musicians… Jay Lane of and the Wolf Bros., Barry Sless Music also of Wolf Bros., along with multiple other groups like David Nelson Band, where he also plays with Pete Sears, who has played with well, everyone is music since the 1960s. is of course in Dark Star Orchestra and was literally in “The Dead” with the Core 4.

More of on the Haight, last Sunday at the THE DELUXE

I mentioned the band had a very jazzy feel, and I think lent to that atmosphere with his piano work.

The definitely enjoyed the arrangements.

brought his ensemble show to the on Sunday for an intimate performance at the THE DELUXE

sang vocals all evening, and the band had a very jazzy, “almost acoustic” feel, with stand up bass and stand up piano filling out the sound.

It is a small bar, so there is a lot of background chatter, but I still think this delicate lead really stood out enough to command some attention.

This high energy, deep musicianship band from San Diego has been touring the West Coast for over a decade, and their tightness shows it.

The jams are intense, and the harmonies on this Eagles tune really show off their cohesiveness.

Catch them if you can: it seems like they are always on the road.
