The term prana (from Sanskrit ΰ€ͺΰ₯ΰ€°ΰ€Ύΰ€£, prΔαΉa) literally means "life" and in the second instance is understood as "breath" and "spirit".
According to Hindu physiology, all living beings, as such, are endowed with prana, the conservation of which derives from the correct performance of all the psychological, emotional and physiological functions necessary for the harmonious maintenance of the inner balance.
According to this philosophy, one of the most evident ways in which living beings obtain prana is given by breathing, which conveys, in addition to oxygen ("coarse element"), also vitality ("subtle element") that we draw from the air.
In yoga and Indian healing techniques the ability to master the breath (prΔαΉΔyΔma) plays a fundamental role, because through awareness this exercise allows you to control and regularize any imbalances and dysfunctions of the organism, in particular between body and psyche, restoring spiritual health in its entirety, in a holistic perspective.
In Chinese and Japanese culture, the concept with meaning corresponding to prana falls within the meaning of Ki, while in the European one it is identifiable with the term pneuma; in the West it has also been assimilated to the meaning of life force, and to the hermetic notion -esoterica ether.
