WEDDING GUEST SHOPPING HELL ——> HEAVEN Lotssss of you have come in with big frowns about finding a dress to wear to that dang wedding that will be fun but ugh I don’t wear dresses so finding one that feels like me is just, well, hell!
HERE ARE SOME TIPS:
- You don’t have to wear a dress!!! It’s ok to not wear a dress. They’re usually innately femme, hard to fit, and being one pieces often feel flat or boring or too this/that, or like they don’t really do the fun work that is possible in a multi-piece outfit! So LEAN INTO THE MULTI-PIECE FIT….
- start with one “fancy” piece in your closet and build from there. You don’t have to go buy every element, start with what you have that feels like current you, physically and emotionally/spiritually. Fashion church!!
- SUITS are fabuloussss elements of a closet and worth the investment. And remember you’re buying separates too! This grey is 90s linen/silk, brown is 90s DKNY rayon blend. If you want less femme look for something without this grey jacket’s nipped waist and high rise trouser (aka go for mid rise with a less fitted hip and leg). If you feel too office-y or casual look for a suit with sharper tailoring, crisp pleated trouser or a sheeny fabric or interesting color (if you want an example of the opposite see every suit our former mayor wore).
- half the fun of a dress is the opportunity to get a little flirty skin exposure….you can still get to experience this sans dress, with sheer fabrics, a deeply unbuttoned shirt, a chic silk tank, a low cut back etc etc. This 1st top is a 90s mesh from an old shop downtown that apparently carried just French shear things (god take me there), 2nd is 60s cotton in a chic crisp brown.
- anyone can wear a tie! anyone can carry a cute-ass party bag!
- don’t forget accessories! weddings are the perfect moment for a party bag like this old old one that will fit your 2 tinted chapsticks and your flip phone but not your iPhone 13 mini trust me!! A gorgeous chain belt, a little head scarf, a silk tie, a crazy shoe!!
❤️Hope this is helpful!!! If in sf Suis Generis has gorgeous suits! Any other recs for chic 2nd hand suiting???
(Tho we do stock dresses and ok yes do like em)
