Watching from across the pond, I can still feel the energy of New York City, the place that raised me.

This is about so much more than basketball. It’s about what New York represents. Resilience. Pride. Heart. A city that gets knocked down, gets counted out, and always finds a way to come back stronger.

There are a lot of great sports teams in New York, but nothing captures the spirit of the city quite like basketball. It’s the game of the people. It’s played on the blacktops, in the parks, and on the street courts that have shaped generations and given the game its soul.

That’s why this means so much. The Knicks aren’t just a team. They carry the energy, the swagger, and the grit that make New York unlike anywhere else in the world.

I’m proud of this team, and I’m proud of the city that raised me. There ain’t nothing like New York. 💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡💙🧡

Fabric carries memory.

This replica of Gilbert Baker’s original Pride flag, made in San Francisco in 1978 at Harvey Milk’s request, is now on display, on loan from the GLBT Historical Society.

Baker used common cloth, thread, and color to build a bridge of visibility for a community that had been pushed into the shadows. Gap was born in this same city, that same year. Our roots are deeply tangled in the progressive, expressive spirit of San Francisco, and we have never taken that lightly.

Gap’s commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion runs deep, from our San Francisco roots in 1969 to becoming the first retailer to offer same-sex domestic partner benefits in 1995.

Seeing these stories connected through fabric, visibility, and belonging is a powerful reminder of the values that have shaped our company and our city🌈✨

A city’s culture is shaped by the artists, makers, musicians, designers, storytellers, and communities who bring it to life. Their perspectives help define how we experience and connect with the cities and communities around us.

Last week, I was honored to join a discussion on the role culture plays in shaping our cities and the importance of creating space for thoughtful dialogue across disciplines and communities.
