Calling all nerds who love costumes, dancing, and tea!
Lady Toxie made this incredible video covering the recent Middle-Earth themed event The Moonlight Summer Ball - Sunday, September 15th thrown by The Historical Tea and Dance Society!
The video follows her whole day getting ready, through the picnic, through the entire first dance of the night, and then at 8:50 minute mark she has some very kind words about the org itself and what we do!
Those of you who attend LoJ may be familiar with this non-profit org as the dance team that runs historical dancing in the basement level Throne Room every year - we also do regular classes on Tuesday evenings in Pasadena, as well as monthly tea socials and balls on the weekends! This style of dance is called English Country Dance and grew out of Medieval and Renaissance dance, you may be familiar with it from shows like Bridgerton or all your favorite Austen adaptations!
Every event has a different theme, some historical periods like Regency (Jane Austen), Colonial (Hamilton), Victorian (Charles Dickens) etc., but also we throw an annual Alice in Wonderland tea social and this year held our first Middle-Earth inspired fantasy ball!
Haley Keim, Jenna Bergstraesser, Eric Whalen, Tory Hatcher & Jessi Wills were my decor team for this event and we are delighted with how we transformed the park into such a magical space. It was wonderful seeing so many faces from the LoJ community that don't typically attend our historical dances come out for this theme, and I know there are more people out there that would love to attend future events!
Follow https://www.facebook.com/HistoricalTeaAndDanceSociety for event postings, join Historical Tea & Dance Society friends for the latest news, and come by for a class!
Beginner friend all levels classes are held the 2nd, 4th, and sometimes 5th Tuesday of each month at Skandia Hall in Pasadena starting at 7pm - $10 admission
Our next event is the Danse Macabre Halloween mini-Ball - October 29th which is on a Tuesday, followed by our Colonial Tea Social on Sunday Nov 3rd.
Come dance with us!
I escaped to Middle Earth thanks to a Middle Earth themed moonlit ball, put together by a local historical tea and dance group!See the festivities, what it's...
