When I started the “blanket babe” side of Stet&Wyld, I honestly wasn’t super sure what it would even turn into. If it would be successful. If people would support me by participating in the rafFłéś or not. If I would make it past the first blanket babe or it would be a fail and I would have to stop.

It’s so amazing to me, that before I started doing this, I never really heard much about childhood cancer or illnesses. I just wasn’t aware of it I’m assuming and it wasn’t ever something I paid a whole lot of attention to (sadly). Now; not a day goes by that I don’t think of a past blanket babe or catch word of someone who will be a future blanket babe. Since January of 2022, I’ve made blankets and shipped to 25+ kids all around the US.

Now I’m sitting here after I just got home from hand delivering McCain his chiefs blanket && my heart ACHES. Somehow, it seems like it is getting closer and closer to home. I went from hearing stories about children from strangers (who became family) to now hand delivering a blanket to a kid in the town I graduated high school from?! It makes me so nauseous thinking of all the kiddos and families going through such a nightmare.

I don’t really know where I’m going with this, but pleaseee just know that I’m so appreciative of you all being able to make this happen and get these extremely deserving kids a small ounce of comfort. You guys are what makes it happen and I can’t thank you enough!

Everyone please meet our second July blanket babe!!

“Jaxon Lee Thomas was born on 3/7/23. Right after birth, he was taken to the NICU due to low oxygen levels. Hours later, it was determined that he had a heart murmur and needed to be transferred to Children’s Mercy NICU. It was then discovered that he had a Congenital Heart Defect known as Tetralogy of Fallot. Tetralogy of Fallot is a condition caused by a combination of four heart defects. These defects affect the structure of the heart and cause oxygen-poor blood to flow out of the heart and to the rest of the body. These four defects include: narrowing of the pulmonary valve (reduces blood flow to the lungs), a hole between the bottom two heart chambers (causing oxygen poor and oxygen rich blood to mix together), a shifting of the body’s main artery, the aorta, (resulting in receiving a mix of oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor blood from both ventricles), and a thickening of the right lower heart chambers (due to the heart’s pumping action being overworked). All children born with TOF will need open heart surgery repair. As a result of his heart defect, he is extremely irritable, difficult to console, and experiences cyanotic “tet” spells in which he suddenly will turn blue due to a rapid drop in the amount of oxygen in his blood, and require a trip to the ER sometimes resulting in a multiple night stay. He will often have difficulty breathing during these test spells. His blood oxygen level stays around 75-78%, while typically they should be at 98% and up. During his spells, they drop down to the 50’s and 60’s. Jaxon’s open heart surgery was this morning! After his surgery, he will need to obtain repair on his pulmonary valve every 10-15 years (unless medical technology has advanced by then). These last 3 months have been some of the best and worst times of our lives.”

He is out of surgery and it was successful! He is recovering in the ICU now 💕

Everyone please meet one of our July blanket babes, McCain! McCain is 14, loves everything sports related (Go chiefs! 🤘🏼) and lovessss to be outside fishing with his friends! He is also a local (Baldwin City KS) kiddo. Which makes this a little extra special to my heart! 💕

From momma: “I noticed some odd bruising on McCain (he was covered in Petechiae for all my nurse friends) long story short we took him to the emergency department who transferred us to children’s mercy. This is not something I would have ever imagined saying but McCain has leukemia. McCain was officially diagnosed with B cell ALL on June 2nd. He has since started and will undergo treatment for the next 2 years.”

McCain chose a chiefs blanket 👏🏼🤩 and I’m so excited to get it to him!!

Who has been watching the NFR?! We looooove watching the cowboys and my oldest is actually named because of one of the riders! Stetson Wright! We were at PBR a few years ago (before we were even pregnant) and when they announced his name, I looked at Jeremy and said “ohhhh, I LOVE that name!!” Andddd now we have a Stetsyn Wayne 🥰🥰 so obviously Stetson is a fave to watch always!! Just little fun fact for y’all! 🤣

These blanket makes came at the perfect time! I’m obsessed!! All the western vibes! 🤘🏼😍

Everyone meet our July Blanket babe! She might be a pretty familiar face to quite a few of you and I’m so excited for this sweet girl to get her blanket! She is on her way to St Louis as we speak; so ALL the good vibes to her and her parents 🥰🥹🥰

“Avery woke up from a nap one day at daycare lethargic and not acting like herself. After picking her up from daycare, and talking things through with several family members, we decided to take her into Children's Mercy Kansas. Upon arrival she was still having the same symptoms and they decided to do a CT scan. The CT scan showed a cyst a little bit bigger than a cyst on her brain and hydrocephalus. She was transferred to the downtown location by ambulance and her dad and I had to follow behind in our car. That night they preformed what would be the first of many surgeries for Avery. We spent the next two months in and out of the hospital and she underwent three different surgeries. Her last surgery was to place a shunt in her brain that would drain the CF fluid from her head into her belly. We thought we had it all figured out, but she was still presenting with lethargic episodes and random burst of extreme pain and crying. Over the course of about a year and half she had just about every test done to try to determine what was causing her pain. She had many different scans, saw several different specialist and had two more surgeries with no avail. This past month we were finally able to make it over to St. Louis Childrens Hospital for a second opinion. After meeting with the amazing staff at St. Louis Children's and all of the doctors getting a chance to review Avery's case, we have a possible diagnosis of Chiari Malformation stemmed from her hydrocephalus. Essentially, the CF fluid is not able to drain properly and when Avery is doing high pressure activities, (eating, pooping, running, playing, laughing, pretty much anything), it can trigger migraine type headaches that come and go fairly quickly. She will have sedated imaging done on Thursday to get a better idea of what her brain, shunt placement, and spine look like. Monday they will go in and repair her current shunt to better fit Averys needs as well replace the valve to be programable so they can adjust her pressures manually without another surgery. We are hopeful and excited for our girl to hopefully be pain free!"

June Blanket Babe 🖤🖤

Everyone meet Aurora! Aurora turned 1 this past Wednesday. Thursday morning, she went in for routine shots and well check appt. The doctor noticed a mass in her stomach, so she went in for imaging. The mass in her stomach is very large, and also is in her chest. The tumors are pressing on her organs, which is not letting enough blood flow through her body. This is causing her to be anemic and she has received multiple blood transfusions since. The doctors cannot say for certain at this time what kind of cancer it is, the biopsy will be back next week and we will know more.

Auroras family said she loves the colors pink and purple and also LOVES puppers. So obviously, this sweet little things needs a pupper blanket in her life to help overcome whatever is in her path. They have a go fund me page created right help with expenses and I will keep y’all updated on her story as I can. For now, all the good vibes and healing thoughts are appreciated! 🖤🖤
