Usually from a longer second toe rubbing the shoe box over time. This may be accompanied by a bruised 2nd toe.

Possibly the squeakiest pointe shoes ever?
Squeaking is not damaging or dangerous but it can be annoying. It is caused by internal friction so shoes like Gaynor Minden or F.R. Duval that do not use a traditional paste layers have less squeaking.
