10.12.17 I opened these doors - on my Nana’s birthday - a person who personified style, art and humanity. October has since become a month of so much meaning. It is now also the anniversary of my marriage to the most loyal and loving person and it is now the birth month of our daughter, Noa. But it also the month of October 7th, a day that changed me forever. And it feels relevant that our 8th anniversary for our shop is on the same day that we can after two years of horrific times, pain and suffering feel a sense of newness, of hope and of peace.

The number 8 in Judaism symbolizes transcendence - it is the number that goes beyond the natural world. It brings to mind things that are supernatural, and beyond. That is this community, this team, this shop. Everyday I choose to show up here not out of necessity, but out of my own want to be part of this group of people and what we are doing. As every small business owner can relate - the ups and the downs can be very hard and often you want to throw the towel in, but it’s the people who you are with you that make it all worth it.

Thank you to this incredible team for these 8 years. You are the best people I know. And to every single person who has shopped with us, who has shared time together - I am grateful.

Here’s the next chapter - here is to hope and to peace.

Nothing brings us more joy than being able to showcase and support our very own. You may know Marie from the shop and not have realized you’ve picked up one of her beautiful handmade heirlooms, crafted from cashmere, baby alpaca, and wool, using remnants from mills in Scotland and Italy. The same ones that supply Chanel, Loro Piana, and Brunello Cucinelli.

A retired chemist, Marie knits for the love of it. In 2024, she reimagined her family’s Dublin shop, Needlecraft, established in 1937, into Dawson Street Knits, a continuation of something that’s always been part of her life.

She admits she’s made too many pieces for herself, and finds joy in seeing YOU wear them. When you choose to support local artists, you’re investing in their passion! Thanks for giving us a platform to do that.
