A marketing study out of the UK showed evidence of what Gen X woman already know: We are not one thing.

"...the evidence suggests a chronological model of age categorization is not appropriate for their understanding of Gen X females. Rather, they are distributed and dispersed across many groups—a moving, rather than fixed and predictable target."

Makes it hard for marketers, but also makes for a kick ass generation.

Also, is it possible to be both happily old and young at heart? 👵🏻💃

As I get older, my wardrobe has become more capsule-like, with multi-tasking staples that I turn to again and again.

Case in point is this shirt dress (and others I’ve collected over the years). Beyond just functioning as a dress, a shirt dress can serve as a duster if it’s long, or a layer over a sleeveless top or dress for hot days that turn into chilly evenings. You can layer it under or over anything, really, any way you want. There are no rules!

This photo is from last September on the day Mean Mag had been acquired, and I was really excited about my new role and what the future held. The future I imagined lasted 7 months, then I got laid off. The silver lining was they returned Mean Mag to me (see earlier video for details), and despite some uncertain, terrible, horrible, no good very bad days, I am once again excited about what the future holds ✨

And I’m still wearing this shirt dress with everything. Here’s to midlife resilience and wardrobe workhorses!

Pride Month is HERE 🌈🏳️‍🌈

We’ll be volunteering, donating funds, and attending events this month. But let’s also keep the love going all year round 🏳️‍🌈 One way you can wear your pride all day long and support LGBTQ+ businesses is to buy from them and literally wear their labels on your sleeve.

These brands are either founded by LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs or support the community, so you can feel good about purchasing from them during Pride Month and beyond. Plus, they make super-stylish, high-quality products that you'll wear and use long after June is over!

One of my most popular posts from Mean Magazine V1 was about using a sofa at your dining table 🛋️ Go figure! I think it struck a chord because it was pandemic times, and families were looking for ways to create multiple-use spaces.

It can be tricky though because sofas can be lower than typical dining chairs or benches, so you often need to make adjustments, like adding legs onto your sofa or finding a lower dining table. And ALWAYS measuring (I have gotten into so much trouble not doing this—like a giant leather sofa delivered to my living room that left no space to move).

Necessity or not, I love this look created by (swipe for another idea of theirs!)

Did you try this during the pandemic, and if you did, did you keep the setup now that we are free to be at school and the office? Will you try it?

Not me taking 8,000 selfies to find the right one to announce that Mean Magazine is back 😬 I just wanted to do what I could to get your attention because I also have some goodies to give away to two lucky followers 🎉

Check the link in profile for details about all of the products, which include two bundles of skincare products. I absolutely love this brand for diminishing dark spots and evening out skin tone. Each bundle is worth about $100 and altogether include 12 full-size products, so don’t miss out!

It’s easy to enter: Just follow and tag up to three friends in the comments. You get an entry for each tag! Also, each prize comes with a bonus gift: a super stylish Mean Magazine jute tote (squint to see it in the background) to carry your goods and groceries. Entries will close at midnight on Monday, June 12, and I’ll randomly choose the two winners on Tuesday, June 13.

I really hope you win, you deserve it. But if you don’t, don’t worry, we’ll have another giveaway soon. In the meantime there will be plenty of stories, shopping guides, style ideas, and more for Gen X women, so if that’s your thing, check back often! Also, swipe for ridiculous outtakes (they are my chaotic decision making process laid bare lol)

Hey Mean friends!

I I have two announcements.

First, after 3.5 years, it’s time to say goodbye to Mean Magazine.

I want to thank all of you for coming on this journey with me and for your support. It was an exciting but sometimes slow and lonely journey of figuring out podcast technology, navigating affiliate networks to try to get the thing to pay for itself, and finding the time to write in between.

It was also a ton of fun. I learned so much from the nearly 300 posts I published and in particular from the in-depth conversations I recorded for 46 Mean Show podcasts (I tagged as many of you as I could!).

I still very much believe in Mean’s mission to serve women at midlife. I’m still passionate about helping GenX (and incoming Millennial) women feel seen by creating engaging content just for them.

That brings me to my second announcement: the Mean spirit will live on via my new role at (new socials coming soon!), where I recently took a position as managing editor. I’m helping the site undergo some big changes (think Mean Magazine but with all the smart people and resources I always wished for) that will come to light in the next month or so.

In case you're wondering, some of Mean's content will live on at Suggest, and the podcasts will remain accessible for the foreseeable future. I'll let you know if that changes.
I’m incredibly grateful to the Suggest team for not only investing in me as an employee, but that they’re creating an editorial product devoted to midlife women. I don’t want to jinx anything but it sure feels like a dream come true.

Anyway, I hope you’ll follow along at Suggest. I’ll also post updates at

Special thanks to , my audio and video editor, teacher and cheerleader. If you need an editor, please reach out to her!

And an extra special thank you to , who made this happen. You are THE BEST!
xx

👋 Bye and hi! 👋 -

Mean Magazine is for women who are diving into the second half of their lives with ambition, enthusiasm, and style. We see you, even though most media don’t seem to. We know that middle age doesn’t mean fading into the background. You might have grandkids, kids in college, babies, or no children...
