Judy Connor Jones

Judy Connor Jones www.JudyConnorJones.com Weaver & Fiber Artist Judy Connor Jones is a weaver and fiber artist who specializes in women’s handwoven wearable art.

Her 20+ years of experience has lead her to produce pieces that use a spectrum of colors in them, each blending with and enhancing the other. Work is shown at craft shows and art centers around New England and beyond, and in the artist's studio. "My mother used to tell me that when I was a very little girl I loved to run the satin edge of the blanket through my fingers and toes to feel the smooth,

cool texture. As I got older, I would work with satin ribbon, make rosettes and sew them onto a wider ribbon and sell them as headbands. By the time I was 10 I was making potholders in varied colors and designs and selling them. I still use some of those potholders today. This early start with fabrics and color developed in later years into a love of textiles and design which led me to a degree in Education and teaching Home Economics. My love for textiles and design was further enhanced and enriched when I learned how to weave. My technical and creative endeavors in the field of weaving and fiber art have been guided and nurtured by a strong involvement in the guild system. Working with fiber art has offered me an opportunity to always learn something new. My work is exhibited in fine craft shows, community art centers, and fine craft galleries. It has received awards at various exhibits and shows. I am a Juried Member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. I consider myself fortunate to be able to work at something I love and hope that my work gives pleasure and enjoyment to those who wear it."

My favorite photographer! Mike has photographed my work since 2010 after meeting him in a show we both did in Cambridge MA in 2009 called "Art on the Pews". It was a fun little show even though I didn't make much money. However I did gain a wonderful photographer as a friend and photo shoot collaborator. Thank you, Mike Ritter Photo, for all those beautiful shots of my work!

Interesting facts about the Art Center Sarasota. My work has been exhibited here.

-- Did you know that in 1949, the City of Sarasota provided the Art Association (now Art Center Sarasota) with a lease of land near the downtown area and in 1948, after the war, the association broke ground for its present building which was designed in the then-popular style of the Sarasota School of Architecture? Our building opened in 1949 with only one gallery which is now known as Gallery 3.

Feeling Nostalgic! Looking through my professional photos that were taken for show applications. This was the first professional photographer I used. His name was Bob Barrett and he was well known in the Art/Craft Community. I think the model's name was Julia. The poncho/shawl was woven in cotton and cotton blends. I can't remember who bought this shawl but I hope they are still enjoying it!

I finally finished the 4th prompt of Rebecca Mezoff's "Summer of Tapestry 2024" in time to join "Summer of Tapestry 2025! The 4th prompt was to weave a small tapestry that represents "Looking or Seeing Through". I chose to weave a tapestry based on a photo I took where the focus was Plymouth Harbor, MA. I was at the Plymouth Rock Memorial Canopy and took the photo looking through the tall pillars of the canopy. It was a beautiful day and there were many boats in the Bay. Here's a few pics of my process and the final tapestry.
