Last weekend, what started as a simple round of Reign of Dragoness somehow evolved into The Great French Fry Summit of 2025.
Between shuffling cards and competitive play, my daughter casually dropped: “I think we need to settle this once and for all. Which place ACTUALLY has the best fries?”
The game instantly derailed. Cards forgotten. Alliances formed.
The Chick-fil-A defenders squared off against the 7 Brothers loyalists. Someone made an impassioned speech for Arby’s curly fries that nearly converted the room. My vote for diy sweet potato fries was immediately vetoed (apparently I’ve lost all credibility since suggesting kale chips were “just as good” last summer—they never forget).
What struck me most wasn’t the heated french fry opinions (though they were STRONG), but watching these teens completely light up over something so delightfully simple. The way they leaned in, eyes bright, making their cases with unexpected eloquence and humor.
My kitchen table transformed into a place where they passionately defended their positions, laughed at each other’s dramatic declarations, and ultimately hatched a plan for a weekend blind taste test to “settle this scientifically.”
Sometimes the most meaningful connections happen over the most ordinary things.
And sometimes, as a mom, you just need to provide the cards, step back, and watch the magic of teenage connection unfold—french fry debates and all.
What unexpected conversations have sparked around your table lately? Those unplanned moments of genuine engagement are pure gold! ✨
