“What are we made for if not to bear each other’s burdens? And this ought to be the effect of trial upon us; to make us, in the very midst of it, unusually interested in the interests of others.”
-Elizabeth Prentiss
Today, October 26th, in 1818, Elizabeth Payson Prentiss (best known for her hymn, More Love to Thee) was born in Portland, Maine. Elizabeth was a woman marked by piety and grace. She suffered many horrible things from the loss of her father, to the loss of two of her six children, and to her own severely ill health. In all of her sufferings, she turned to the Lord and drew nearer and nearer to Him. Over the course of her life she wrote many books, most notability Stepping Heavenward which is still available to read today. Her life was marked by incredible suffering and yet, her legacy is one marked by beauty and joy.
