PROGRESS.

I am working my way through the size medium for the pattern I am working on. Designing has taken me on a wild journey. This choice to dig in and work hard at creating one-of-a-kind hand knit items and then write a cohesive instruction manual for others to make the same item later is by far the most intricate thing I have taken on. It has taught me a lot about patience and practice. Frogging things is the new norm and swatching is now a common pass-time.

To those of you who are not knitters:

Frogging is a common term we knitters use when you destroy your work by pulling the yarn out to reuse in a different project or to re-work what you already did. Think of it like painting a picture - for hours/days - and getting halfway through (sometimes even completely through) and deciding you hate it so you paint over it with white and start from the beginning.

Swatching is the act of making a swatch; which is a (usually) 4x4 sample of the stitches that you are going to use in your pattern. You do this to see what the fabric will do once your object is completed. A lot of yarns bloom in the soaking process and become much bigger than you accounted for. By swatching you can see this and adjust your needle size or yarn to fit the desired gauge.

I hope you all enjoy your Sunday!

With Women's History month in mind I have dug up a couple fun facts about some really brave women! πŸ§ΆπŸ€΅β€β™€οΈ

During WWII🌏, Phyllis Latour Doyle was a secret agent working for Britain πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§. She joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force at the age of 20 to be a mechanic and was later scouted to SpyπŸ•΅οΈβ€β™€οΈ. By all accounts, her most harrowing mission was on May 1, 1944, when she jumped out of a U.S. Air Force bomber into N**i occupied Normandy. She was behind enemy lines and her male predecessors had been found out and executed. She was playing the role of Paulette: the poor soap saleswoman. Because she was less suspicious she was able to communicate more freely with the N**is and acquired information that she later put into her knitting using knits and purls as Morse code. Her espionage helped allies position for D-Day. She continued her mission until the liberation of France in August of 1944. πŸ‡«πŸ‡·πŸ‡«πŸ‡·β

I have another spy I will be sharing with you guys later in the week.

Its time to get real. I know that for the sake of a good photo its nice to clean up your space and strategically place plants or props around your work and I'm totally all for a good shot. But lets be honest too.

I woke up this morning and went into the kitchen to make my coffee and this was my kitchen table in all its glory (I did remove the pile of bills before I decided to take the photo). I'm not ashamed. I'm a creator and my partner is a creator and we make messes and then spend (some) Sundays running around cleaning them up. Its a never ending, very real, battle that I contend with and I wanted to let you know that you are not alone!
..I hope I'm not alone here.

I cast my test knit line out into the world and this is what I caught! 🎣

I'm just so impressed by the whole experience. If you have ever been a test knitter you may or may not know how valuable your work is. I have such a new appreciation for just how much information can be gained from a test knit. β πŸ“‘β

This is my Tidepools Mitten pattern that I am tirelessly working to get out to you all. I have had a lot of ups πŸ“ˆ and downs πŸ“‰ with this pattern but seeing the photos of these test knits has really given me a bit of steam.

All good things come to those who plant seeds and water them.
