PROGRESS.
I am working my way through the size medium for the pattern I am working on. Designing has taken me on a wild journey. This choice to dig in and work hard at creating one-of-a-kind hand knit items and then write a cohesive instruction manual for others to make the same item later is by far the most intricate thing I have taken on. It has taught me a lot about patience and practice. Frogging things is the new norm and swatching is now a common pass-time.
To those of you who are not knitters:
Frogging is a common term we knitters use when you destroy your work by pulling the yarn out to reuse in a different project or to re-work what you already did. Think of it like painting a picture - for hours/days - and getting halfway through (sometimes even completely through) and deciding you hate it so you paint over it with white and start from the beginning.
Swatching is the act of making a swatch; which is a (usually) 4x4 sample of the stitches that you are going to use in your pattern. You do this to see what the fabric will do once your object is completed. A lot of yarns bloom in the soaking process and become much bigger than you accounted for. By swatching you can see this and adjust your needle size or yarn to fit the desired gauge.
I hope you all enjoy your Sunday!
