🖤 THANK YOU! 🖤
June has now come and gone, and I am so happy to report that because of people like you, SSV was able to make a strong donation to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. there are dozens of incredible organizations out there doing amazing work for racial justice, but this one is close to my heart.
as a teacher, I am a firm believer that investing in the next generation is one of the best things we can do while we are on this earth. we can teach and model for them what it means to show compassion, think critically, love our planet, learn necessary life skills, engage in important dialogue, and use our unique gifts to impact the world. what breaks my heart is when quality education (including caring, qualified staff, access to materials like books and computers, and suitable class sizes for adequate student-teacher engagement) is not available to students simply because of circumstances outside of their control, such as one’s housing location or family financial status.
limited or no access to these things makes it nearly impossible for students to get the chance to be accepted into a quality four-year university, if any. that amounts to thousands of smart, caring, world-changing students being robbed of their potential to use their unique gifts in the world simply because of systemic racism and socio-economic disparities.
I chose to donate to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund because part of their mission tackles this exact, massive problem. from their website: “The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans.”
if you haven’t donated to any organizations yet, or are looking for one which has been given some of the highest rankings in non-profits in the country and is doing incredible work for people who most need it, I highly encourage you to consider giving to . link is in their bio.
