Inspiration
My handmade shoes come from a desire to create well-crafted, classic footwear inspired by the working class footwear of the 1930s thru 1950s. The styles are mostly masculine of center, but also include some decidedly feminine of center styles as well. Handmade in the USA
My construction methods are a combination of old world and early industrial techniques plus a helping of ad hoc derr
ing do. I make all parts of my shoes by hand using simple machines and tools made between the early 1900s and 1950s. I cut and dye all parts of my shoes, set all of my eyelets and do all broguing by hand using manual tools. You know, the old way. I cut, shape, sand and stain and finish all my wooden sandal bases too. For that reason my output is very small and very slow. Responsibly sourced materials
All leather, dyes, thread, eyelets, buckles, and all other findings and materials are sourced domestically whenever possible. All leather I use for the insole, sole, upper, lining, counter and toe box is veg tanned. For the wooden soled sandals I use white pine. Shanks are steel, and for all the additional rubber soling elements I use Vibram. Every pair is made to order
Almost all of my shoes are made to order in your choice of style and color plus a range of customization options. I use vegetable tan leather, which varies in color and texture so I can decide which parts of the hide to use in a way will augment the natural textures and produce different color variations dyed, making each pair unique. You can choose one of my ready to wear styles or customize one to make it your own. Please see my customization page on my website for more details, and I would love to hear from you if you have other things you are wondering about.
