Lace knitting is often admired for its beauty, but what makes lace truly special isn't just the pattern you see—it's the structure behind it.

When we begin to understand why stitches behave the way they do, we become more confident knitters. We stop simply following instructions and start building a deeper understanding of fabric, fit, and construction.

Synthetic yarn isn’t bad. It’s just different.
When you understand how it behaves, it becomes much easier to choose when it fits your project, and when something else might feel better.
Synthetic yarn can be great for durability, affordability, and easy care. But it can also feel less breathable and respond differently when you’re shaping or blocking a garment. None of that is right or wrong. It just means your yarn choice can support (or work against) what you’re trying to make.
When you start matching fiber to the needs of your project, your finished pieces often:
➡️ feel better to wear
➡️hold their shape more predictably
➡️ become sweaters you reach for again and again

Have you ever knit two yarns that were the same weight and hit the same gauge… and still ended up with two totally different sweaters?
You’re not imagining it — and it’s not because you “did it wrong.” Most of the time, the difference comes down to fiber.

The softest cotton isn’t always the best cotton for your project. 🧶
Soft cotton can feel lovely, but if it’s loosely spun, it may wear down faster over time. A firmer cotton may feel less soft at first, but it often gives you more structure and durability.
