✨Look 7 - Le Smoking Suit

Yves Saint Laurent’s 1966 Le Smoking gave women the Tuxedo — and with it, a language of power that womens’ fashion had never known before.

The bold color and high luster of this silk sari give that authority a new dimension: power dressing that carries the weight of two cultures.

✨BEHIND THE LENS:
A designer can make the most beautiful garment in the world. But until it is photographed — by someone with skill and vision — it cannot inspire an audience or tell a story.

✨The worlds of fashion, art and technology colliding to create something entirely new!

Guests at the Draped in History Showcase got to take home a piece of art that encapsulated all that the collection stood for; fusion, heritage and creativity.

The art prints were created in collaboration with Bhavishya Lingam, an artist whose favorite medium is pen and ink .byb . This collaboration was especially fun and special to me because Bhavishya and I are friends from high school!

Since the collection was a fusion of east and west, I wanted the art prints to be a fusion piece as well; a cross between Victorian silhouette art and Indian miniature paintings. She used a combination of hand-drawn sketches and AI editing to create this unique art print!

✨Look 6 - The Mod Shift Dress

The 1960s Mod Shift stripped fashion back to geometry — straight lines, abbreviated hem, no waist.

This look pays homage to Yves Saint Laurent’s iconic 1965 Mondrian dress. And it takes the concept of recycling further: each colour block is cut from deadstock fabrics or offcuts from other pieces in this collection.

Nothing wasted. Everything intentional.

✨Look 5 — The Dior Cocktail Dress

The 1950s cocktail dress was a garment made for arrival.

The natural luster and woven patterns of the Kanjeevaram silk sari does the work that couture houses would have entrusted to hand-beading: surface, depth, and the kind of quiet extravagance that doesn’t announce itself.

✨Look 4 - The Dior Bar Suit

Christian Dior’s 1947 Bar Suit redefined femininity for a post-war world. The cinched waist, the padded hip, the full pleated skirt.

Here, a chiffon sari with applique work is paired with silk brocade — one fabric for drape, one for architecture.
