Spring of this year brought an unexpected challenge in the form of a fun and adventurous bride with a desire for a black and white theme, and 1930's style. She requested me to create hat, boutennieres, and bouquet with lace, silk, velvet, and feathers instead of fresh flowers. Katie and I found that we inspired one another, and the results please us both.

Katie's black sash had a lovely splash of lace, which allowed me to receive the remaining portions. Katie also knew she likes quill twizzles, sculpted feathers, pearl spritzes, all combined to create drama.

The wedding was in April in the apple orchard at the Lodge at St. Edward Park, as the newly opening blossoms adorned the ceremony.

I'm so lucky to have been a part, and Katie and Dan are living happily ever after!

When our pear tree produces only one pear, instead of the usual 40 - 45 pears. This is the second time in over twenty years we have had a sole pear. I harvested it today: it weighs in at 14.75oz.

This weekend is the very first American Craft Council National Open Studio Weekend, and Ballard Millinery Studio is throwing open the doors!

As I prepare for the fall and winter season, I'm looking back at previous booth setups outside the studio. The fun comes when each setup is different due to the assortment of hats I'm showing. Sometimes the space is small, so the display must be very compact. I love the challenge each time!
