According to Juneteenth.com, Juneteenth (also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day or Emancipation Day) celebrates the actual end of slavery as it had been known. While President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was made official in January 1863, the benefits of the proclamation did not reach enslaved people in Texas until more than two years later because there were not enough Union soldiers to ensure it was followed.
On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger and his troops finally arrived in Galveston, Texas, to provide the message that the war was over and that enslaved people indeed were to be freed.
Today, Juneteenth celebrates Black culture and accomplishments. Recognized as a federal holiday in the United States, banks, your post office, and government offices will be closed for the day. It’s a time when communities congregate for backyard barbecues, concerts and picnics to celebrate.

Presidents Day was established in 1879 to celebrate the birthday of the nation's first president, George Washington, born on Feb. 22, 1732. Later, the holiday grew to honor 16th president Abraham Lincoln, born Feb. 12, 1809. It became a federal holiday after being signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson, thanks to the 1968 Uniform Monday Holiday Act, an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation's workers

Presidents' Day, celebrated on the third Monday in February, is not the official name of the holiday. While the name “Presidents' Day” was proposed for this Monday holiday in 1951, the U.S. government never officially changed the name. Nine states do not celebrate this holiday. In the 1980s, thanks to advertising campaigns for holiday sales, the term became popularized and largely accepted.
