Happy National Pumpkin Day from all of us at Front Street Eye Care! 🎃

Ten days until Halloween, Secaucus! 🎃

The costumes are picked, the candy’s stocked, and the neighbors are already getting competitive about their decorations. Before the big night, here’s one thing from us at Front Street Eye Care.

Skip the costume contacts from the party store, gas station, or random online shop. Those colored and cat-eye lenses can scratch your cornea and cause serious infections, even if you only wear them for a few hours. Real contact lenses, including the decorative kind, need a prescription and a proper fitting.

Tune-in Tuesday: Are your sunglasses hurting your eyes more than wearing nothing at all? 🕶️

Dr. Maty says yes, they can. Dark lenses make things look less bright, but tint has nothing to do with UV protection. Behind a dark lens with no UV rating, your pupils open wider. That lets more harmful UV radiation reach your eyes than if you’d skipped the sunglasses entirely.

So forget how dark they look. Flip the tag and find “100% UV protection” or “UV 400.” No label? Don’t count on them.

Picking up a cheap pair at a street fair, a gas station or a pop-up stand this weekend? Take a second to check first. Your eyes will thank you in 20 years.
