It's not often that I share much outside of the work that and I pour our heart & souls into, but this past holiday weekend we had a rare opportunity to really spend some time enjoying our beautiful little peninsula. We never know what might come into the shop!

The other day we had the honor of creating the rear carpets for Lisa & Gene's 1934 Ford. Gene's decades of experience has garnered him multiple awards for his incredible talent at restoring classic cars. We can not express how honored we were to be asked to contribute even a small part to his most recent restoration.

"Simple is rarely ever Easy"

We make custom pieces. That's what we do here at Sew Rugged. Custom projects are challenging, they require a high level of problem solving, innovation, the ability to fail and try again. A willingness to test skill and creativity and understand the restrictions of materials. It all starts with, "We need a THING to do THIS. Can you make that?"
This time it was asking for a cushion to sit on the cockpit combing of Restive for use during long tacks. Soft yet supportive. Discreet. Not permanently attached, but won't fly overboard. Made to withstand a marine environment. Gentle on the varnish (no hardware that might scratch), but won't slide around. Small enough to store easily, but big enough to sit your bum on.

It is always a pleasure working with the skilled professionals at . They give us the parameters, we set realistic expectations and deadlines and then they leave it to us to use our professional skills to make it happen. They truly understand "Simple is rarely ever easy!"

From upholstering with a 15yo elk hide (bullet holes and all) to putting white upholstery in an airbnb - our customers go BOLD!

Making upholstery new again is so gratifying. It's challenging and piecing it back together can induce some head scratch...

Making upholstery new again is so gratifying. It's challenging and piecing it back together can induce some head scratching. It comes with mystery nicks in your hands and the anxiety of knowing a hole in vinyl IS A HOLE and there's no going back. It sometimes leads to late nights sewing and days of patterning. There are numerous tools and techniques involved. At the end of the day we take pride in what we do and the finished product we present to our customers. Sometimes we even remember to take pictures to share with you! We hope you enjoy this before and after.

This week has brought so many interesting and unique projects - even had the opportunity to try his hand at making leather moccasins!
