Burlap rice and coffee bags, typcially upcycled for miscellaneous functions, get the nod via the mismatched textile panels on the upper, with colorful graphics giving the nod to Nike’s predecessor, Blue Ribbon Sports. The tongue includes a nutrition label-style tag, which sports a zippered compartment, while the left sockliner reads ‘Thank you for caring!’ Underfoot, the usual concentric outsole provides traction.

After two decades — and an endless stream of requests from Air Max collectors — all three pairs are releasing to the world. On top of addressing the overwhelming demand, Tanghal is eager to bring this story to a new generation of sneakerheads while also finally making the previously-unreleased sample “unicorn shoes” accessible to all.

Despite it being a pure bring back, it was harder than you might think to faithfully recreate the designs — Tanghal even noted that they had to grab an original pair off of eBay for reference. It was even tougher with the orange and pink pairs as only about four of each “unicorn shoe” is thought to exist, though one collector does have both. “Keith had held onto the samples for the longest time, but with him being so chill, if a collector was persistent enough, he would realize that they wanted the pair more than he did,” Tanghal reminisced.

With all three colorways successfully recreated — including every element from the precise coloring to materials like the cracked leather found at the mudguard — the HUF team decided to put one twist on the sneakers: co-branding, a detail that Nike didn’t allow in 2004. When the team had the opportunity this time around, they mocked it up with HUF’s original vintage logo combined with a Swoosh and loved it — a touch that Tanghal noted makes the shoe feel more “personal.”

It’s been a full twenty years since Scottie Pippen took the court on the Olympic stage, in one of the most heavily-branded sneakers the industry has ever seen.

Originally styled by legendary and longtime Nike designer Wilson Smith III, the Air More Uptempo was the first hoop shoe to feature a full-length Air Max unit, and Nike was sure to let you know.

Shoes like the Air Max CW, aka the Air max Sensation, incorporated heel and forefoot Max before it, but this shoe now included midfoot Air as well. (Which may or may not even be necessary.)

Each side of the shoe’s upper then famously spelled out A-I-R in bold fashion, with a 360 design that featured wrapping rectangles from letter to letter underneath the outsole.

After winning his 4th NBA title in a more subtle Black/White colorway of the model that same spring, Pippen and his fellow “Dream Team II” teammates flexed their global dominance at the ’96 Atlanta Summer Games.

They outscored opponents by an average of 32 points per game, as teams around the world were still a few years away from elevating their play to compete against America’s pro-laden teams of future Hall of Famers.

Several of the Olympians on that team headlined featured sneakers of their own, like Penny Hardaway’s Zoom Flight ’96 and Grant Hill’s Fila GH2, but it was Pippen’s Air More Uptempo that stole the show. The grand irony of course, was that while it was the first shoe Pippen would singularly lead, he didn’t necessarily have design input on it.

Bronx-native and fitted cap king Jae Tips is getting ready to release his very own sneaker by way of Saucony. The Jae Tips x Saucony Grid Shadow 2 arrives this Fall and is the designer’s first sneaker collaboration ever.

Known for his use of vibrant colors, Jae Tips employs an array of standout shades across the sneaker. The upper is crafted with n**e mesh and suede overlays in shades of Purple and Aqua. The sneaker also features graphic prints of zebra and floral to give the colorway even more depth.

Jae Tips’ “Savior” brand logo is embroidered onto one of the tongue tags, while the other tongue tag reads “Saucony.” Other Jae Tips identifiers are seen on the inside of the ankle collar, as well as the sneaker’s special shoebox, which proudly reads, “Jae Tips First Shoe.”
