This is why I need a GoPro on me at all times. Took Evie for a walk and forgot my key, so I had to knock on the door when I got home...Evie started barking because someone was at the door. It was her. She was at the door.

You don't understand the significance of this video.

When we first got Evie she was reactive to ALL dogs including our Bowie. He was persistent though, he pushed her when she needed to be pushed and backed off when she needed him to back off. And after weeks and weeks, he started to wear her down and make her love him.

When we said goodbye to Bowie, we could see the change in Evie immediately. It took months for her to stop looking for him at all our favorite walking spots. She was becoming reactive to dogs again, and being attacked by two off leash dogs didn't help.

Here we are, 15 months later, through lots and lots of hard work, Evie is able to exist near other dogs without barking or lunging.

And more than that, she is actually playing with Tink!

I cried watching this video this morning and writing this, because of missing Bowie, and because of being so happy with the strides Evie has made.

Rescuing an older dog, one who is reactive, is not always easy, but moments like these make it all worth it.

It's a beautiful day here in CT and of course that means plenty of walks for Evie!

While we have been making great strides regarding her reactivity to other dogs, we are still challenged with new fears! The other day it was a piece of plastic blowing across the grass field at the park, and my favorite is the automatic arms in the parking garage down the street...she refuses to even walk that way.

But I don't mind going the long way around on a day like today, get out and enjoy it!

I share the difficult stories of a reactive dog, but am happy to say I have two wins to share!

Friday night while at a baseball field with Evie two unleashed mini poodles came running toward us. I dropped her leash because...experience and trust in her recall...not knowing how she would react. They were friendly, Evie was cautious, but it went well. They ended up playing together and in no time Evie was 'herding' them around the field! I bet they slept good that night. It was the first time I've seen her really play with another dog besides Bowie.

Then tonight while walking her, a small dog ran across the road...off leash again...barking angrily at us, at the same time at the end of the street were two dogs being walked that started barking. This was worst case scenario for Evie. She was anxious, whined a little, but didn't bark or lunge at any of the dogs! I was so proud of her!!!

Hard work and consistency is paying off!
