PC Chic-DIY By day I am a nerd that manages nerds. By night I sew. I sew stuff you can carry things in. Bags, totes, Carry Alls, Duffles, etc.

I truly love taking cool fabrics and putting them together in a manner that makes people smile.

New project 🙂

This bag is from a pattern I have a love/hate relationship with. It seems that everytime I start it, I end up having to alter the pattern because of the obsession I have to make things overly complicated.
This time is going to be the time I actually use the pattern with no alterations, well, almost none at least. 🙂

For this bag I am using an antique embroidered panel. I cut it up so the best part of it fits.
I am also eliminating the zipper for this one and am opting for a magnetic top enclosure so it is easier to open and close.
I did add a pocket on the outside for easy access to a cell phone.

Stay tuned for the finished product.

FINISHED PROJECT ALERT. 🙂

This was the first apron I have made since my first HomeEc class in Junior High.

This one was for my son, the super fantastic BBQ king of MorseForce BBQ.

Turned out pretty awesome. I also got to use one of my pockets for the front. Using Jean pockets saves me tons of time, upcycled them, and (frankly) they always look awesome!!

Meanwhile…

Had to put one project aside to whip out a bag for a great friend.

To me the fun part of a project is picking fabric. I always chose one that matches the recipient’s personality and then build off of that.

Here is the layout.

Then I determine some updates. For example, I am not doing zippers on this one because the person has arthritis. I am also adding an easy access pocket on the outside so her cell phone is an easy grab.

Stay tuned!! :-)

New pattern alert 🙂

This one starts like a puzzle. Had to print everything, cut all the pieces out, then tape them all together.

It will all be worth it. It will all be worth it. It will all be worth it

One of my long time besties asked me to take a look at her sewing machine. It wasn’t working and she thought I might be able to fix it.
After a bit of under-my-breath cussing, I got the front section off to replace the bobbin. Then I replaced all the thread and played with the tension and voila! It works 🙂

I made a short demo video. Make sure to watch until the end for the surprise

I start with a game plan. I layout all my pattern pieces. I then start pulling the fabrics I want to use. (Then I figure out I don’t like the way it looks and I go pull other fabrics 🙂)
Then my friend sends me a text that says “Left your Christmas present by the Power Wagon”
This gift is a giant tub of vintage lace table cloths, table runners, doilies, hand embroidered panels. I think I set a record for saying “oh my God, look at this one”
What started as an easy bag I am making for another friend, becomes the first up cycle from my cool Christmas gift. The outside shell is done. It took a bit of reengineering to make sure the embroidered panel would fit.
Full pics to come when I the friend receives it.
I have so many plans for my gift haul. Stay Tuned!!!

It has been a couple of months since I have sat in my happy space 🙂
Sewing took the sidelines while I “anxiety organized” my craft room.

But, I am back at it and am making something I haven’t made since Junior High. Full pics to come but, I can say I have re-ignited my love/hate relationship with my seam ripper.

I love it because I can quickly and easily undo whatever mistake I made.
I hate it because it means I wasn’t paying attention and sewed something wrong.

But, a quick break to rip apart these two seams and I will get this project finished up. 🙂

Pics to come after the recipient receives this as a birthday gift

Big shout out to my favorite Guy! 🙂

He helped me get my shelving framework hung.

Slowly moving all my stuff back into the fresh space.

The goal of this project is giant. This needed to become a usable, organized space.

1) Get rid of the storage containers/systems that I bought with the greatest of intentions
2) Make all my stuff and things as visible as possible
3) Give me more crafting space.

It’s coming along..slowly..but it’s getting there.

I am still reorganizing my craft room 🙂. 5S …. The technique that has been drilled into anyone who has worked just about anywhere.

The first step is Sort.
This happens to be the “never ending” step.

As I sort stuff I am also making a place for everything. This is step 2 of 5S. “Set” everything in place.

I used some on hand materials to make a place for all my pictures and frames.

Forgive me Crafters, for I have…sinned?

It seems as those the vast majority of the clutter making my craft room unusable was actually bins, totes, hanging organizers, lids to bins and totes, more organizers….and yet more bins of every size and shape. All bought to help me organize. All empty and taking up space.

I am taking my stay-cation as an opportunity to clear out the craft room. Floors swept and mopped. All empty stuff moved out. I built some shelves so I can sort it the actual craft items.

Stay tuned for after pics…because I was either feeling too embarrassed or just have to admit that I plain forgot to take the before pics. :-)
