Buy your silver jewelry from artisans hand making their work like I do. Ask us where we source our materials. I only buy silver from reputable jewelry wholesalers like Rio Grande and Wholesale Jewelry Supply. Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. That’s it. No other metal. I’m confident there are many artists and jewelers on instagram and Etsy that would love your business. And if it seems way too inexpensive or a super duper deal for Sterling silver you’re probably getting scammed. These companies steal artist designs (I’ve seen it multiple times where an artist has come across their very own photos on Temu) and produce a cheap crappy material version of them. Just stop buying jewelry from these places!! SHOP SMALL
”Silver" jewelry sold on Amazon contains dangerous levels of a carcinogen — with some items 9,000x over the legal limit.
A recent investigation by The Sunday Times has uncovered a startling safety hazard on major e-commerce and social media platforms: cheap jewelry marketed as sterling silver is actually loaded with cadmium, a toxic heavy metal and known carcinogen.
Independent testing of items purchased from Amazon and TikTok Shop revealed that a "925 silver" ring sold on Amazon consisted of over 92% cadmium—more than 9,000 times the UK legal limit.
Similarly, charm bracelets bought on TikTok Shop contained nearly 33% cadmium. Despite being advertised as premium precious metals, these budget-friendly accessories are posing severe health hazards directly to unsuspecting consumers.
Cadmium exposure, which typically occurs through accidental ingestion after handling the jewelry or skin contact with open piercings, is known to accumulate in the body and cause severe damage to the kidneys, liver, and lungs.
While TikTok Shop and Amazon have begun removing noncompliant listings and sellers, experts warn that regulating these massive online marketplaces remains an uphill battle. Compounding the issue is a regulatory gap: unlike the UK and EU, which enforce a strict 0.01% cadmium limit, the United States lacks a comprehensive federal limit on cadmium in adult jewelry, leaving consumers vulnerable to toxic imports.
