💠International Quilt Museum- Lincoln💠
Some of our Guild visited the world’s largest quilt museum yesterday and got to see the wonderful displays and have a behind the scenes tour! Lots of pictures but all worth a look! 🥰
Everything there comes from over 70 different countries, with some pieces dating back to the 1600!
The care that goes into preserving these quilts is amazing. Every space is temperature, humidity, and light controlled. Each quilt is refolded every couple of years, stored with acid-free paper to prevent creasing, and handled only with white gloves.
They have around 9,500 quilts in storage that they rotate through, and pieces from the permanent collection are usually only on display for about 12 months every 10 years. So if you have seen a wonderful display, there’s a chance you might not see it again for many years
There is an isolation room for quilts before they go on display, this is to ensure nothing can compromise the other quilts in storage
A photo setup room is located on the ground floor, this is where staff can take pictures of a quilt from above …on ANY floor …fascinating!
