A look back at my May art exhibition. ✨

Every piece represents a chapter of my journey, my culture, and the stories I continue to tell through art. Grateful to everyone who came out, supported, and experienced this moment with me. This is only the beginning.

Im happy to announce “Sweet Magnolia” will now be featured in South Bend Museum of Art ❤️

This marks my second installment in the museum, and I’m truly honored to continue sharing my work in such a meaningful space. Each opportunity like this reminds me how far I’ve come and how much more is ahead. And I’m so grateful to God for continuing to bless me.

Sometimes I have no idea what I’m going to make and then I just create…

“Return” 💚

She exists at the intersection of displacement and inheritance, a body rooted in African soil yet standing in a present shaped by what was taken. Green flows through her like land and life, her form a terrain that remembers. The red bandana marks the now, the lived Black experience layered over a history that predates geography and maps.

Her crown bears the Kanaga, a Dogon symbol with arms lifted to the sky, connecting earth and spirit, human and ancestor. It declares identity as structure, as power, as continuity unbroken. The mountains behind her are real, grounding her in African landscape, refusing erasure. Above, night and sunset coexist, purple cosmos and fiery horizon entwined, collapsing time into a moment that is past, present, and future simultaneously.

Chains drape her neck, broken and extended forward, evidence of what was endured and what has been overcome, refusing to remain hidden. In her iris, Africa is alive, not behind her, not beneath her, but within her vision, shaping how she moves, sees, and becomes.

This is a figure who does not seek freedom. She carries it. The work embodies the cross-cultural condition imposed by force yet transcended by awareness. Return is not relocation but reclamation of identity, narrative, and selfhood. She knows it. She carries it.

‘Sweet Magnolia’ 🤍

Acrylic on Canvas (30x40 inches)

The stereotype of Black fathers as “absent” and Black children as “fatherless”—first introduced over 50 years ago-has, like many racial stereotypes, refused to die. This narrative overlooks overwhelming evidence that Black fathers are deeply involved in their children’s lives and care, often more so than fathers of other races.
In southern culture, where family and community bonds are both celebrated and scrutinized, this stereotype is particularly harmful. It distorts the reality of everyday life, reducing the richness of Black fatherhood to a false caricature.
In this image, the skin tones used is a gentle reminder of the natural beauty and diversity within Black families, emphasizing that these stories are real, lived experiences not myths.
