Condé Nast Traveler () once called shoulder season “the most underrated time to travel.” At the risk of ruining it, they were only half right: it’s the most underrated time for everything. 🔹 Shoulder season is the this-and-that space. The clarity between thoughts, the pause between breaths. It’s the deep exhale or the early stretch, depending on which side you’re on. 🔹 We typically associate this time with travel and destinations, as we should, but the best-kept secret is that *almost everything has a shoulder season*, if you know how to look. 🔹 Where’s yours? 🔹

65 years ago today, on September 30, 1955, James Dean lost his life on Highway 466. 🔹 For at least three generations, Dean was the patron saint of a certain kind of sensitive-but-tough, artistic, countercultural worldview. If you were one of the ones who saw the world this way, Dean’s spirit had a way of finding you when you were young. And when it did, your belief in what was possible expanded. There was something mystical about it. 🔹 I often wonder if Dean’s ghost still wanders the way it used to, if that spirit is still called to purpose. I wonder if there’s some 14-year old budding poet out there today, streaming a clip from Rebel Without a Cause for the first time and wondering, “Why haven’t I seen this before?” I hope so. 🔹
