As a COACH… you want to win every game, but you don’t. I take this loss as I always have because my youngins win and I lose. Started the season off with 13 new players , 2 returners off of a championship team. I asked them September 30th what’s the goal and they all said “Championship “. They came in practice everyday and learned as a new team how to win and compete. I saw these young men SEVEN days a week . We built a FAMILY environment and it showed. To see these young men cry after falling short in the championship game to a really good team touched my soul. I’m so damn PROUD of each and every one of them. Not because of making it to the championship, but because of the growth as YOUNG MEN they showed from start to finish. It’s ALWAYS been BIGGER THAN BASKETBALL with me. Teaching young men of color in the environments that are not the best how to succeed and win has always been the goal. In the two years I’ve been a coach at Rogers we have one championship, one runner up, and overall a 33-3 record in two seasons. But the overall best thing is that these young men have become better young men and I was happy to be apart of their lives. Forever my players, forever their coach!!!!
