Is there a way my life as a hairdresser could be like a musician? I want designated albums, tour dates, B-Sides, roadies + probably some real official merch for the (few) die hard fans ♥️😏
Sometimes I want my experiences to be summed up in super rad lyrics + epic instrumentals. I would have loved to release “an album every year” … so this June I would be releasing the 20th album. Probably would be an Anniversary Album.
But in all honesty, I am continually humbled as a human who cuts hair to help others feel good about how they show up in their life. The longer I work with someone, there comes a little moment where the trajectory shifts + it’s not just about the hair anymore.
There is a deep connection.
Right now many search + find me for my work with naturally Curly Hair (Thank You for trusting me 🙏🏽) We jam out and cut some mad rad curls, talk way too much about build up + water soluble gels. We laugh over how much Gel I actually use bc “I never use that much at home” is a common reaction. And we connect over curls… but months + years pass and ….
A light gets shined on the most important things we all experience in life. I get to hear the unabridged versions of happiness, joy, loss, fear, the firsts and the lasts. The relationships that started, the ones that ended. The jobs. The hobbies. The exiting. The exhausting. The new houses, new cars, new careers. The dinner dates + coffee conversations. The big trips. oh the traveling ♥️ of the world 🗺️📌
I’ve seen families grow from 1st day of school to graduations. Funerals + reunions. The weddings. I get to graciously listen to the things that matter most to people + although no one ever prepared me for the extreme losses… I’m honored people share their grief. I’ve watched resilience after the miscarriages, mass shootings, cancer, caretaking + the loss of a loved ones.
What a lifetime of learning. Happy 20th Year Hair Anniversary ♥️
