Most vintage gowns stay in the closet because of something someone once said about them. Too dated. Too much beading to work around. Too much train to ever wear again.

This one came in with long lace sleeves and a cathedral train. It left as a sleeveless satin column: the original lace, every original pearl, and a bow made from the gown’s own fabric. Everything we didn’t use went home with her.

Her grandmother’s gown, from the 1940s. Worn again by her mother in 1990. Yellowed by years in storage, and she wasn’t sure it could still be hers.

A few careful changes later, she walked into her wedding feeling completely comfortable in it. 🤍

All she asked for was a silhouette that felt more like her body.
We took in the sides and turned the skirt into a mermaid shape that highlighted her curves. Then came the practical part: a shorter train with snaps, a bustle for the reception and a hem at just the right length.

Once the wedding was over, her dress and veil came back to us for cleaning and preservation. We love seeing a gown come full circle. 🤍

This gown arrived with every lace flower, covered button and scalloped edge already in place, and that part belongs to the designer. What it didn’t have yet was her shape. We took in the sides of the mermaid silhouette so the crepe follows her from bodice to flare, then added a bustle so all that lace can leave the floor once the dancing starts.

Many brides can buy the same design. Only one gets it fitted to her. 🤍

Some gowns have lace to forgive a little. This one had nothing but satin and clean lines, which means every inch had to be right.

We fitted her through the entire body and set the length so the train moves with her, not against her.
