I love Halloween and vintage so of course our Halloween decor is vintage! Here are some of my favorite pieces we decorate with every year in our home. This is but a tiny portion of our vintage Halloween decorations but ones we put out every year no matter what!

I love vintage die cuts, the nostalgic noise of the 90s shaking decorations that make that noise none of us can forget from 90s era Halloween and vintage melted plastic decor. 🦇

One of our favorite decorations are the 90s Haunted Candelabra my husband and I thrifted years ago in Joplin, it even has its original box and it’s always the first thing we put out in our house during Halloween. My husbands favorite are the light up googley eye skulls we use in our front yard. When we brought home my 1974 Cadillac Miller Meteor hearse, a set of these were in the back and since then we’ve found 2 other sets at auction and at a thrift store. My favorite is always going to be the dancing and rapping skeleton shown at the end. He’s motion sensored and it’s only a matter of time before he’s shut off before he gets tiring 😂

I also collect vintage and antique funerary pieces that are a part of my year round decor, would anyone like to see those before the Halloween season is over?

What are some of your favorite Halloween decorations? Are yours vintage too?

Oooooh how I love Halloween 🎃

Here’s a look at Halloween through the decades 👻

In the 1920s-1930s, crepe paper Halloween costumes were all the rage. I’ve had the good fortune to have a few of these during my time as a vintage seller and I have one in my permanent collection that’s covered in crepe paper Halloween cats. People were also getting creative with handmade costumes like that skeleton and Pierrot style clown in the 30s.

In the 1940s-1950s, handmade costumes (even those using out of date fashions) were very common. I’ve always been a big fan of the Halloween pin up photographs from this time.

1960s-1980s-character costumes and a mix of handmade costumes were very in style. Ben Cooper and Collegeville branded character costumes came in a box with a mask and usually and plastic or fabric dress or one piece jumper that matched the characters mask. I love finding these, these also started to become popular in the late 50s.

1990s-This is my era and we really started to get funky during this time. Handmade or full costumes that were premade were common and horror/spooky costumes really started to come into play. Lots of ghouls and zombies, I dressed up as Carmen Miranda when I was in grade school and I still love her to this day 😂

What’s your favorite era of Halloween?

There’s a million more things I could add to this list but in reality, these are things I straight up couldn’t sell vintage without and use them literally every day.

1. Measuring tape! I keep 3-4 in my studio at all times, one because I misplace them constantly and because it’s good to always have a few on hand. I even keep a small one with me in my purse for when I’m out sourcing to check measurements.

2. My Canon EOS50D. One of the first things I bought for my business years ago. I know lots of people prefer taking photos with their phones now, but I love to document and have an archive of all the things I’ve listed and sold. This is what has always worked great for me and I’ll die with that camera. I even have a back up one in case one breaks.

3. Oxiclean! (Sponsor me 😆) While not for all fabrics, this is a life saver for a lot of vintage. I use this for a ton of cleaning and I’m running to get more as soon as I get close to running out

4. Hangers, you can never have enough! I have hundreds in storage that are the pretty padded vintage ones too

5. Lint roller. It doesn’t matter if it’s already been cleaned or what but anything passing through my shop is getting lint rolled before it heads out.

6. Tagging gun. This is a sore subject for some and while I don’t use this on all products, I do use it for my newer vintage clothing that it won’t mess up the fabric.

7. Lint/pilling remover. I never saw the point of these until I bought one and now I use it every day. They’re so cheap, go get one if you have vintage in your closet, they’re a life saver!

8. Business cards. I design my business cards then buy them in bulk and my husband and I have a hole punching party and punch holes in each and every single one. We use these for our product tags and put labels on the blank side. So handy and you can get them quickly and are often cheaper than product tags.

9. Coffee ☕️ I don’t drink as much coffee as I used to because it really affects my POTS but I can’t start my day without that sweet embrace of coffee

What can’t you live without as a vintage lover?

Let’s talk about the difference between vintage-inspired and actual vintage or antiques.

Let's clear up three words you see constantly in the world of old stuff:
ANTIQUE: generally 100+ years old.
VINTAGE: an item from a past era, commonly used for clothing that's roughly 20+ years old.
RETRO: something made later that deliberately imitates an earlier style but is brand new or modern.

So that 1980s dress? Vintage.
A 2026 dress made to look like the 1970s? Retro.
Your great-grandmother's 1890s blouse? Antique.

My husbands absolutely legendary thrift finds yesterday 😱We don’t go thrifting much anymore but we road-tripped yesterday and found not 1 but 2 Crypt Keeper decorations that both work and I personally have been after that Dracula decoration for years and that’s the first thing he found when he walked in 🧛‍♂️

We scoured the store trying to find the book that goes to the Crypt Keeper with no luck but I have the same one that came with its original box I found a few months back.
