Thank you to everyone that has messaged, called, brought food, came by the house to spend time with us and/or for my Dad's Funeral Service and Graveside Service. Please continue to remember our family, especially Mama in your prayers for the days to come.
Thank you to those that has placed an order in the last week and has been patient and understanding regarding the delay. I have been working all day and will continue to so tomorrow to mail out orders by tomorrow afternoon. I will be working through the weekend as well so if I do not get to your order tomorrow, it will ship on Monday. Again, thank you for patience during this time.
POUND, VA -Reverend Jimmy Slemp, age 74, Thursday, entered into Glory on April 16, 2026, at Centerpoint Health, Georgetown, KY with his loving family by his side.
Jimmy faithfully served the Lord for over 50 years and pastored several churches throughout his life. Jimmy truly loved his Lord and Savior and would tell you about them every chance he could. A 1970 graduate of Pound High School, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for Paramount Coal for 20 plus years. Jimmy spent many years training horses. He enjoyed gardening and always had plenty of food to share with others. He loved farming, hunting and fishing.
Born on June 25, 1951, the son of the late Earl and Jessie Slemp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Slemp Jr, and sisters Lillie Margaret, Norma, Betty, Dodie, Tick, Janie, Ann, Jill, Eva Jo, Sally and Tiny.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Audrey “Ma” Slemp aka his sweetie, his children - Greg Slemp, Jessica (Jerramy) Mullins of Stedman, NC, Patti (Ethan) Owens of Pound, VA, David (Courtney) Slemp of Pound, VA; Kristi (Travis) Rasnick of Nealy Ridge, VA; grandchildren - Tyler, Matthew (Savannah), Logan (Lindsey), Madi (Chad), Mason (Nina), Elijah, Brady, Noah, Khloe, Greyson; great grandchild - Ember Mullins. He is also survived by his sisters Judy Cantrell and Patsy Baker.
Jimmy also had a special place in his heart for his dogs, Sparky and Taz, known as "the boys".
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00pm Saturday April 18, 2026, in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with his son Reverend David Slemp and Reverend Troy Belcher officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until time of services.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00pm Sunday April 19, 2026, at the Slemp Family Cemetery - Pound, VA where family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:00pm to prepare to go in procession to the cemetery.
